    RAM compatibility

ok, so i just ordered this (thanks to lil_jimmy for the find):

i currently have this in my system:

i have 3 slots for RAM on my board.... 2 are close together(green slots), 1 is seperate (purple slot).

obviously, i will be smacking my new 2 gigs in the 2 green slots in place of my 2 512 sticks. but im wondering, can i move 1 of the 512 sticks over to the purple slot, totalling 2.5GB of RAM? would that work, and is there a reason why the slots are diff colors and seperate from each other?

    Re: RAM compatibility

Some slots are certain colors for dual channel purposes, like yours. And yes, it will work.

yup, i have 2 512mb pc3200 sticks in there right now, always have for over a year now.

ok, so i was reading the manual (which kinda sux) abotu dual channel ram

it says to use 2 diff color slots to make it run dual channel...says the dimm1 and 2 (the green slots) are chanel a...and dimm3 (the purple one) is channel B.

so, do i gotta insert 1 of my new sticks in a green, and the other stick in the purple?

You will see no noticable diffrence between 2 gigs and 2.5 gigs. Just sell your old RAM.
