Computer shuts off when playing BF2

Now in the middle of a game of BF2 my computer would just shut off for no reason. I looked on my speed fan program and one temp reads 68 degrees C. Now it only has been doing this since the latest patch from Dice. Any ideas? Maybe the dust is clogging my fans. A side note. My Cd-Rom has stopped recognizing and cd new or old i put in the drive. I disconnected that from my power supply and from the Motherboard. I will see if that helps. What i posted below is what i found on google.

    My specs:

    Amd Athlon Xp3200+ 2.2ghz
    1 gig pc3200 ram 400 mhz
    160gb seagate 160gb HD 7200 rpm
    ATI X850 XT
    Creative X-FI extreme music

I have seen where a bad power supply has damaged the board on two cd drives - they could no longer recognize a CD. A malfunctioning CD drive can sometimes cause strange symptoms. Make sure your CD drive(s) work(s) properly - if one doesn't, disconnect it's data cable.

Go into your bios and turn off the option to shutdown the computer due to overheating. Also if you have any programs that are doing so shut them down as well. If you are able to run without shutting down than you have a heat issue. If it continues to shutdown I would look to the power supply. I have not experienced this problem with the new patch but anything is possible with this patch from hell I suppose.

Id say its heat. I need to fire up my air compressor and blow out the dust in my computer. Plus by some can of air and spray my video card. I did disconnect my cd rom. which stopped working. IE reading discs.

        It is Definitley HEAT.
You need to start task manager>processes>sort by cpu and see if anything is eating resources besides BF2. Very unlikely the patch would cause your cpu to spike in temp

So what is running at 68? I don't see why you would out of nowhere start getting higher temps due to dust. You'd have to have some serious dust bunnies in there, like your cat has been sleeping right in front of the intake.
If it's heat open up the box and make sure nothing has stopped working or fallen off. Such as memory heatsinks which are usually just thermal taped on, fans that may have died, etc...
If you've recently messed around with your fans make sure you've put them back in the right direction. I know it seems basic but I've seen many an experienced tech make that mistake. In the front out the back. Or vice versa but typically IFOB.

Buy some fans,or open the side of the case if your not a dust freak.

The EXACT SAME THING has been happening to me too when i downloaded the patch, but mysteriously, its not only the BF2 program that shuts-down when i run it, but other EA programs like battle-for-middle-earth 2. How do you turn off the shut-down option?

prolly heat. my friends compouter would shut down too when he tried to play games cuz the processor was overheating.

basically all we did was clean all the dust out of his heatsink....there was ALOT. never a problem after that.
