New Monitor

I'm In the process of completly remodeling a house and was going to purchase a new monitor for my PC. I don;t really know anything about monitors so if you guys could let me know what good response times etc... are. Money is really no object since the house is 1,000,000+.

I don't really want to own anything with a dell logo on it, but I don't know of any other 2560x1600 monitors out there. I'm going to also use this as a personal theater/TV set.

Just to let you know Samsung makes Dell's monitor's. Or you can just buy Samsung.

as you are posting on a gaming forum, I would assume you are going to be using games on it, yes? In that case, you really should take into consideration the response time. Anything 12ms or under is fine. This one looks pretty awesome :)
Anyone know the response time for the Dell and the Apple 30' screens?
Edit: after a quick search on google, they look to be around 14ms each, so those ought to work too :)

Just get a good beefy card (7800gt or higher) to power it and I guarantee you'll love it.

Yes, Both of those monitors are 14ms each, but thats gray to gray. Black-white-black response times are typically twice as slow, and I really only see the high end monitors listed as gray to gray. I may be completly wrong, like i said, I don't know much about monitors.
MatDef, isn't that the same monitor I gave a link for? If I were to buy it now, I would probably go with the mac, just because it is so much sexier than the dell, but i'll have to do some more research before I make a desicion.

I have the 30" Dell. Its a monster is all i can say. I wouldnt reccomend it though unless your a nutter, it is a little over the top. At is native res the start menu button is a spec on the screen and getting the mouse from one side of the screen to the other may require taking a break half way.

I love it and its nice having so much space, it is a nice bit of kit.
Main problem is powering the thing, 2x7800GT's struggle at games run at that res with any detail turned up, which is fair enough since were talking about the equivilant of 4x1280x1024 monitors on the go at once.... but you do get to see where the true power of sli is.
BF2 i dont run at the native res(1900x1600 i think),you will notice low framerate at max res on my setup.
AOE3 i do run at native res, you occasionally get some graphics 'glitches' but this may be down to case temperature as the cards are maxed out when doing this (keeps me feet warm though).

Picture wise you can notice some variation, mainly in the areas that have the usb and card reader slots behind them, it is unoticable when you arent looking for it.
You cant plug much into the Dell btw.... no s-video or the niceties of the Mac (I only have DVI input although Dell sites says it does say analogue inputs?), the Dell is a monitor and nothing more.
Remember a 30" monitor requires high resolutions, 1280x1024 on this monitor will give you a start button about 4" high so if you did get it make sure you back it up with some suitable graphics cards cos you'll cry if things are only playable at low res.
Google the model number and 7800gt, theres a few reviews of it and some benchmarks of the 7800gt's at that res. I think sli'd cards is the only choice with the awesome scale of this monitor.

If i was going to get a different monitor i would go for the 24" Dell, its simply a more sensible choice.

Ok, In that case I'll probably go with the a 1920x1200. 23" should be just right along with the resoloution. Now the question is should I get the dell, or the sony?

You're only saying that because you want the 30" club to remain as exclusive as possible

Eventually 30" will be the standard. I've gotten used to mine so quickly already. I thought I would be having multiple windows of everything open all at once, that was the case at the start. Now its being used like a normal everyday monitor, except you have the hugmongous real estate that a 2560x1600 affords. A single opera browser window is all I usually have up. Everyone should get one, and live it up. You only live once eh! :p

I bought mine because I knew if I had the best then the upgraditis bug would stay away a little longer than usual. It runs fine on a x1900xt at stock. Only thing I haven't managed to do yet, is run bf2 native @ 2560x1600, the option doesn't appear in the game. Is there some sort of hack out yet. Hopefully the option will be enabled when R600 and G80 come out.
