I am expecting Conroe to be good, even better than current AMD offerings, but not as good as Intel says. Cut their claim numbers in half and they are still impressive.

being that anand did all the testing, but intel did set up the computers. Every tech forum in the world has discussions like this and they are getting real nasty.... I will no longer flaunt i had my fun I apologize.

Like i said, i have no doubt the conroe will be good, maybe even far better than AMD's chips for the time being. However, i still am wary of a test setup by one side of the competition.

I can't wait to see some real unbias benches from anandtech or HOCP

I think Intel purposely did it, not to make their own chips better, but to make AMDs worse. Who to say they didn't overclock the conroe to make it preform even better? It seems like they purposely underclocked the FX-60, so why wouldn't they overclock the conroe?

This makes me so very happy! I really need Intel to start kicking AMD's ass. My father is a retired Intel employee and my entire upbringing and lifestyle was funded by Intel stock, I even own some now myself. It was going to be painful having to buy an underperforming Intel gaming machine as my next computer but it looks like it will be faster than AMD afterall!!! Yay, go Intel, everybody buy lots and lots of Intel@!@!

The FX-60 was OVERCLOCKED to 2.8GHz, not underclocked. They overclocked it to make it at a faster clockspeed than their 2.66GHz Conroe and to still whoop it.

Additional benchmarks. Intel and Anand overclocked the FX-60 to simulate an AM2 increase in performance.

Conroe looks promising, there are probably a few kinks in the armor that we wont see until launch, but its a total redesign for Intel, AMD's AM2 chips are just a tweak of what is out there right now, so the next year + the performance might be with Intel.

So we benchmarked Conroe; we previewed it, under the only circumstances we could. Intel setup the systems, Intel installed the benchmarks and Intel only let us run what it had installed. Given those circumstances we did our best to make sure the comparison was as legitimate as possible. We checked driver revisions, we checked hardware configurations, BIOS settings, and memory timings; we consulted device manager to make sure nothing strange was limiting performance. We did everything we could think of to make sure that the comparison we would present to the world was as transparent as it could be. But the one thing I ’ve come to understand and appreciate is that the AnandTech reader will always keep us honest; many of you came to us with questions and we spent all evening answering them.

The performance picture with regards to Conroe hasn’t really changed all that much - on average we’re still seeing a bit over a 20% increase in performance over an overclocked Athlon 64 FX-60. While it’s worth noting that these results should be taken with a grain of salt, we really were not able to determine any cause for suspicion based on Intel’s setups. The machines were as clean as they could get, with the BIOS oversight having no tangible impact on most performance.
