    CAS 2 or CAS 3

I'm sorry if this has been posted before. I searched, but didn't find anything.

I'm finally going from 1GB to 2GB of RAM. How much difference is there between CAS 2 and 3 memory? I can get 2GB of Corsair XMS 2-3-3-6 from Newegg for $176 after rebate here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145575

Fry's has 2GB of 3-3-3-8 for about the same price.

I don't overclock my computer, so that isn't an issue. Is there an advantage to either of those? I'm thinking of going with the CAS 2, but I'm not sure. Any advice would be appreciated.

    System Specs:
    Athlon64 3200+ (Socket 754)
    Asus K8N-E Deluxe
    1GB Corsair 2.5-3-3-8
ATI AIW 9800Pro (upgrading this next month)

If you don't benchmark Cas 3 is fine. Going from Cas 2 to 3 is worth about 10-15mhz in overclock. So Cas 3 ram at 215mhz would be about equal in speed to Cas 2 ram at 200mhz. The Cas will not affect your FPS noticeably.

latency means very little on the Athlon64 architecture. There is still an impact on performance, but your better off getting a beefier video card first, worry about memory latency 3rd or 4th on your list.

I'm building a new pc for my girlfriend in a month or two (when/if GR3 ever comes out). I'm going to get myself a new video card when I build her machine.

Hey, sorry for derailing your thread but I have a somewhat similiar question. I was gonna get 2GB of ram but I ended up getting just 1GB. I have 512MB of compaq ram that came with my HP media center and I was thinking of using this on top of the 1GB G.Skill stick that I'm getting. I know that I will be forced to go at the speed of the slowest stick of ram, but the difference between both sticks is only .5. (g.skill stick is 2.5, compaq is 3). Would it be better to have the lower latency or go with the full 1.5GB of ram?
