    TV to a PC Monitor?

I want to know if this is possible, i've been thinking about this for a long time. I have a Sony 36inch CRT HDTV already in my room next to my pc. And I wanna try to make it to a pc monitor I already know how to make a computer monitor to a tv with a (Viewsonic NextVision N6) but what about tv to pc what kind of hardware is needed to do this?...what I want to acheve is to have all 3 things working for me on the same monitor TV, PC and my Console Xbox 360 all on my Sony tv.

Edit: I found these pictures of a Big lcd tv turned into a computer monitor so its possible to do this

Just hook it up to the little breakout box you got with your gt and then use a program like powerstrip to change the res and everything else.

Yes, i've been looking at this plug since I got this idea but the plug came alone when I bought my video card it did not come with the actual cable to connect the tv to it. And I dont know whats the plug called to connect the tv to the video card plug. ( sommeon told me its a S-Video Cable..)

HDTV's tend to have a max res of 1300x900 ish which was the only thing that steered me from going down that route, interesting to know how bf2 actually looked on a big tv at that res, i took the big monitor approach for uber resolutions, if slightly less acreage of screen

Look at your TV and see what it has, if it has an S-video, use that, its better than RCA.

If not, you can just use RCA connectors. surely your TV has RCA connectors

well video card companies never give you the actual cables, just the connection box (that you postec pics of)

Just go to a local electronics store and pic up an S-video cable.

After I get the S-Video cable all setup and pluged to my tv and my connection box.
My tv is going to act like a seconde monitor and how will I be able to manage when I want to watch t.v or not?

Essentially, you will have the use the Nvidia control panel to activate the other monitor (TV) and you can use it to clone your current one.

I'm not 100% sure if your card will support the TV being a primary monitor through the S-video port (since thats supposed to be used for supplementary monitors for cloning or expaning the desktop.)

tinker with the options in the nvidia control panel for a bit and see what you come up with.

EDIT: I forgot to add the Tv watching part.

you will use the function on your TV that is "TV/Video", which switches between modes. Hit the button until it shows the desktop (once youve activated the TV from the control panel). Then when you want ot watch TV, just hit the tv/video button until the TV channels show up again. TV's normally have TV and about 2-3 video channels nowadays.

Re: TV to a PC Monitor?

If its an HDTV and you want HDTV resolutions you need to use a DVI/CRT connector or component video, S-Video and composite will not give you high resolution.

This might require buying a new video card with Component HDTV output, or getting an extra PCI HDTV video out port.

EDIT: Nice pictures.... double check your video card can do HDTV output then connect those Red/green/blue to your TV and you will have high resolution HDTV.

Re: TV to a PC Monitor?

Yes I made it work I went out to RadioShack and got DVI/CRT cables
Pluged them right up its was very easy. I took off my old CRT monitor off my desk and put my tv instead on my desk it looks at bit corny on my desk but am using 1360x768 resolution and it look freaking nice better then it looked on my CRT probably because of the HDTV!
I went in a helicopter in BF2 and flew for like 10min and i thought I was in the game LOL!
This is amazing thank you guy's! 36inch is SWEET!
