Upgrade Options?

so if you look at my sig, you'll see my specs.

i want to know if i could upgrade the video card itself? the laptop is a Dell, and i've been given the runaround 6 or 7 times by thier tech support (one person connects me here, then there, then back again, and i go nowhere, HATE THEM). I know i can upgrade the ram to 1GB allready in the process of doing so, and the processor is GREAT and really reliable, hard drive is being upgraded to 100GB at 7200 RPM.

Right now i can run vanilla on low @ 1024 X 768 no problemo, but i know that higher end video cards let you render movies (i make em often, its my minor) faster, and right now i cant stand this SLOW rubbish. It needs to be a good card AGP 4X capable, but so far no professional companies have helped me...

IS THERE HOPE? Could i do it on my own? i'm preety savy at taking stuff apart and putting it back together again, and i'm not worried about voiding the 3 year warranty, THE DAMN THING WAS FREE.

What model is it? A few laptops can be upgraded but you have to contact Dell tech support with a part # for a replacement, not an "upgrade"

Im pretty sure you cant do it yourself, that dell has to do it, that is if there is one that will go in your lappy. also, I highly doubt you can play bf2 at all with a 32mb gfx card, sorry.

No, you can do it yourself, all you need to do is find out the best video card avaliable for your laptop, and then order the part # through DEll support posing as this is a service upgrade, or check ebay.

But first he needs to see if his model even has the upgrade option. I know with the Inspiron 8600 which i used to own, the max card was the R9600 Pro 128MB.

i have been able to, just on uber low. its the only computer i got and the last time i played was yesterday! (see stats)

then its not 32mb, most likely 128 and maybe if a higher power likes you, 64. not 32 @_@

yeah, cuz my friend played with a x600 Xpress or something like that.. On a laptop and it worked with 64mb and 512mb RAM.. He said it didn't lag either.. which is hard to believe.. :|:

Goodluck, it will set you back a few hundred bucks probably, call the spare parts phone number. But first you will probably want to google/find on the dell forums the part # for the R9600 Pro Turbo 128MB, as its the largest and fastest card for your laptop.

Heat would be an issue with a faster laptop graphics card. Especially if you have to mod it to fit. I would be very carefull.

I used to own a Inspiron 8600, they originally shipped with a 9600 pro turbo as a made to order option. Heat wont be a problem, the problem will be finding the part # or convincing Dell to send you one without costing an arm or a leg.
