I use an LTB Platinum 5.1 headset/mic with my X-Fi.

I personally use a pair of Sony's that I bought at WalMart for $25-$30 bucks. The sound posititioning with the on-board sound is phenominal. My only real complaint is that when I first got them, they were a wee tight on the head, but after a few days of use, they stretched out a bit and were more comfortable to wear.

Anyone try the EA BF2 Headset? I know its cheap ($29). But, i wonder if it might be a good starter headset?

I notice some people sound good and clear over VOIP while others sound loud and static and laser scratchy like.

Is that because of the headset or their configuration?

I love those headphones, so I second that recommendation.

                Medusa 5.1.

Separate amplifier and outputs for your 5.1 speaker set.

                  avoid the TEAC HP-11

its horrible, the front center and rear speakers are way cheaper than the left/right ones. Also the mini amplifier sucks big time (bad shielded), it mixes channels by its own.

                  horrible stuff and costs alot

the medusa has a great sound, but its noisy if you turn the volume up. Also its bad shielded, cellphone near the headset and the noises kill your ears!!!!

the best one I could find is the trust Trust 751B 5.1 Silverline Headset. absolut great 5.1 sound. very strong bass and ultra cheap. no ghost noises or other problems.

Get a real soundcard instead of making crappy headphones do the 5.1.

That way you can get quality headphones too.
