BF2 and X-Fi sound card

Hello,

I was just wondering if there's anyone here that has upgraded to an X-Fi card after they bought BF2, and if so maybe you can tell me if there's a noticable difference in the sound experience.

I have ordered such a card and can't wait to plug it in and crank up the effects to max detail The emulated surround will be really sweet too :)

You will see a BIG difference. You wont regret getting the X-Fi card. Love mine.

I did and I love it man!
I upgraded from an onboard card so I don't know the difference between an X-FI to a Audiogy or the likes. But compared to the onboard, it sounds terrific.

I've got the X-fi platinum edition, and it rocks! The level of sound detail is awesome - it has saved my life more than once!

I did notice a slight increase in the frame rate, more specifically the game stopped lagging where it would have before. So if your game runs silky smooth now, you might not SEE that big a difference, but will definately hear the difference.

An X-Fi card does indeed make BF2 sound amazing, the level of depth and detail added to the whole audio experience is most impressive. It's hard to describe, I guess we'll just have to wait until you get the card working to realise how great the sound can be and how much it can add to the enjoyment of the game. I was eagerly awaiting it's release and got it when it first came out.

Having said that it's also a case when getting an X-Fi of 'Let the buyer beware'. It's performance well undoubtedly be closely tied to your individual hardware and driver setup. I was afflicted with extreme performance drop on my prior pc and my current pc. I had to go back to my old Audigy card. After much cursing of Creative though I have finally been enjoying the X-Fi quality sound on BF2 that I love since I tried Creative's 2.09.00 BETA drivers. The November 2.07.0004 and the previous driver version were unusable for me, framerate took a noticeable hit, sometimes making the game unplayable on my 7800GT. I'm happy with the BETA drivers and will gladly use the completed drivers on release, which supposedly shall be sometime in the near future.

Does X-FI mean with ultra high mean they do binaural sounds or just more channels? I'm having trouble believing it will improve a significant ammount if it's not binaural sound. I'm also very wary about non-blind tests when talking about sound quality.

i've got an audigy 2, i work at a pc shop so i tried the xfi for a couple of weeks, its a big improvement in sound quality, it supports allot more voices so the ammount of sounds is allot more aswell, the 3d is pretty good, and the performance increcement compared to onboard sound is amazing, better framerates and such.
but there several drawbacks aswell;

not a big deal, but the new sound is realy something you need to get used to, at first it sounds kinda weird with lots of filters over the sounds.
after a while you get used to it and it sounds good.

tho i prefer software rendering because you hear everything, even from miles away, i can heat exactly were a sniper is positioned coz the sound isnt adjusted verry much. i can hear vehicles at big distances, and with hardware rendering this is adjusted so the positioning is better, it sounds better, but from a tactical point of view i prefer software rendering :P

It friken ROCKS! Make sure you update the drivers cuz BF2 can have crashes with the driver that came on the CD. Go to Creatives knowledge base and search for BF2 and it lists the procecdure. Pretty simple. I had to do it to mine yesterday as a matter of fact.

cant say i can see the point in a new cards specially when you have a surround sound system like myn. my cards already pretty tuned up anyway.
