Going to 3 gigs of ram, will it disturb dual channel ?

Well, i've decided to get a 2 gig kit 2 x 1 gig kingston value ram.. but will this work with the x 2 nanya 512 mb ram in dual channel ??? and will it get rid of those horrible framerate drops i get in f.e.a.r ??? because that's just annoying :P v1.0 though...

    ok well thnx in advance

maybe try 2gb on one channel and 2x512 on another,or if you get no joy that way maybe 1.5g on each channel.

it can also depend on the timings of the ram,1gb stick usualy has lower timings than 2x512.but there maybe some exceptions.

personaly if i were you i would just go with the 2x1gb one on each channel and sell the 2x512 and maybe put towards another 2x1gb at a later date.
2x1gb should be perfect for games.

For dual channel it has to be the same exact ram (amount(and tpye I think)).
So go with the 2x1gig in one dual channel setup and the 2x512 in the other

k, and the 2 x 1 gigs dont have to match the 2 x 512 in brand right ? because im getting 2 x 1 gig kingston value ram sticks and what i have now is 2 x nanya (or something)

It will drop you down to a 2T memory speed, other than that it will work fine.

Ditch the 2x512mb sticks, you don't need the extra ram and it will only slow the other ram down.

Hardly, 2T memory timings will impact performance a little, but not that much.

It can also bring him down to ddr 333, which might happen.

And? I have a toledo and I was still stuck at t2 ddr 333 until it oc'ed it ddr400 speeds.

Revision E can run DDR400 @ 2T, your bios must be uber conservative because they are supposed to run DDR400.

Yes, revision E chips can, but not all motherboards can. By filling all four slots you are guaranteeing 2T command rate with a 5-10% performance loss. You could decrease stability, have no headroom to overclock, and like Mat Def said possibly revert to DDR333mhz. I don't see a reason to get more than 2Gb of ram. The boards out today were not really designed to handle that much ram and neither was windows XP.

If you get that much ram and don't have a server board I wouldn't go as far to call it stupid, but what the heck, it's stupid.
