Will my processor bottleneck the 6800gs?

i have a Intel P4 515 2.93 GHz processor, Will my processor bottleneck the 6800gs? if no then up to what card could I get without it bottlenecking performance, if it will bottleneck then what nvidia card could a get without it bottlenecking performance.

i know nothing about intel processors, but *if* it bottlenecks any modern vid card it will bottleneck them all. thats just it - a 'bottleneck' is the slowest point of your system which holds back performance.

if your CPU bottlenecks a 6800gs, then it would probably bottleneck a pair of SLI 7800gtxs as well.

that said it probably wont. beyond a certain point - around 3ghz - BF2 doesnt really benefiit much from CPU upgrades, if at all. how much RAM do you have?

It shouldn't bottleneck it. Pretty much all games nowadays are GPU-dependant

the CPU will not bottleneck the card, in other things, its a SMALL possitibility, but in BF2, if you have at least a gig of ram or more, dont worry, that is a fine processer and will not bottleneck your 6800gs.

im gettin another 1/2 Gb in the next week, if i did get an extra 2gb should i remove my existing (256 x 2) ram?

if you get two 1 gig sticks, or one Twogig stick, take out the 256's. what exactly are you buying? home many sticks and how much memory in each, and hoe many slots you got? (total)

im gettin 2x 1GB PC3200 exactly the same as what i have now, i have 4 slots.

what would happen if i left them it wouldn't reduce performance would it? is there any reason i should take them out as opposed to leaving them in.

unless you play lots of stratergy theres no need to buy a really good processor over a good graphics card

going from a a64 3000+ to an fx-57 will give you an average of 4fps increase on bf2

your proccessor will be good for now it will bottleneck a little but nothing to really worry about

you might want to upgrade when amd launches its new proccessors later this year
