cpu overclocking

Hey guys. I have a northwood p4 2 Ghz. i changed the fsb to 110mhz from 100mhz. the temp only went up about 1 degree celcius. Is this okay. and could i go a little higher and still be stabl. i dont want to burn up my cpu. Help if you can thanks.

Sup, what are your specs of the whole system, Ram and Motherboard, and cooling?

depending on the rest of the specs...

but from what you said, I would say thats fine. just dont go over maybe 8C more.. I would say, or get better cooling after that. Make sure you are stable too.

also, it went up 1C from what current temp?

Depends if your motherboard has an AGP/PCI lock. If it does your fine, and can probably hit 2.8-3ghz if you know what your doing.

it went up from 25 celsius to 26. runs at 30 with bf2 running. Via PT800CE-A, p4 2 Ghz, 2 Gb Corsair Dual Channel, Nvidia Geforce 6600GT 256MB. i usually get 70 fps steady. even when in combat. 80 when idle.

Is it even possible to overclock some computers? I have an Intel 1.8 ghz and an Intel D845EBT mobo and all the clock speeds are all greyed out in the BIOS.

Intel motherboards won't let you overclock... well some support the Intel Desktop Control center, but that's like 10. And even then the most you can do is raise FSB by 4%

26-32C is fine, ESPECIALLY for an INtel, 26-32C ain't too shabby for an A64 in fact, and P4s are always hotter than A64s, or atleast the newer Prescott models are.

Before you go any further, make sure your temp is true to the temp. If it is, don't worry till you get to 60c. 75c-80c is where you may start to cause damage. By the way what processor you runnin? (core I mean)

Its a Northwood. It was a little unstable so i bumped it down to 2.24 untill i get water cooling :).

btw i have it set in my cmos where it shuts off if it gets to 60

If it is a Northwood, your not gonna be able to go that high, they do overclock well, but your ram and the voltage are your main factors, being that the temps are really low, it is unstable for 3 reasons, your ram cannot handle the overclock, your fsb is open and so is the peripherals(agp,etc locked at 66/33), or you need more voltage to push the processor higher. Honestly the Northwoods do not overclock well, but I have a 2.6 that I got up to 3.05 with air and it still had room on the temps.
