hey i have a 3800 x2 cpu as u see below, i dont know how to use it to my full atvantige. my friend says that i can select diffrent devices to run on either core, like i run one of my 7800gtx's on one core and the other on the other core. i know ppl say that dual cores blow when it comes to bf2, is that true? and can any one tell me how to use my 3800 to its best, and are there any sites that show how to use them?

Re: dual core help.
well there is this thing called affinity i believe, which lets your choose which programs are running on which core. both cores use the same Ram i believe, andyou CANNOT set one video card to one core, and another to another core (if using SLi). it doesnt blow for bf2, you just need to DL a AMD dual core patch from their site. if that helps, i dont know how to use affinity but someone can show you how.

Re: dual core help.
were can i find this affinity program? and if i set all other programs 2 one core and just bf2 to the other, will this have any affect?

Re: dual core help.
Affinity can be set in task manager.
EDIT: You realize your 3dMark scores are WAYYY off don't you. You should be scoring almost twice that.

Re: dual core help.
How to install dual core hotfix:
How to set affinity permanently:
If you set affinity in task manager you have to do it every time you start a program.
You need to try changing the Affinity of the BF2.exe to run on just 1 CPU.
It hasn't been patched yet to know how to handle running on two cpu's.
There is a pretty good tool you can get to setup the affinity each time you start the game:
Here's the download:
Download it and create a folder in your root called prioaff and extract the 2 files there.
Force BF2 to run on cpu 0 with the following short cut
C:\WINDOWS\prioaff\prioaff.exe 2 01 "D:\Games\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1
To run on both cpu's at realtime priority
C:\WINDOWS\prioaff\prioaff.exe 3 11 "D:\Games\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1
And to force it to run at realtime priority on cpu 1
C:\WINDOWS\prioaff\prioaff.exe 3 10 "D:\Games\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1
To use different priorities change the number following the exe.
0 = Idle
1 = low
2 = normal
3 = realtime
Eg: C:\WINDOWS\prioaff\prioaff.exe 0 ( would run idle priority )
To pick what cpu / core it runs on change the 2nd number after the exe.
01 = run on cpu 0
10 = run on cpu 1
11 = run on both
Eg: C:\WINDOWS\prioaff\prioaff.exe 0 01 ( run idle priority on cpu 0 )
*WARNING* users of single cpu systems should never use the realtime priority if you do expect to do a hard reset.

Re: dual core help.
if I understand correctly (correct me if I'm wrong), you can set which program get's to be computed first. High priority > lower priorityOriginally posted by Bio_Terrawhat exactly does "Real Time Priority" mean?

yeh i knew that but what priority setting is "real time"if I understand correctly (correct me if I'm wrong), you can set which program get's to be computed first. High priority > lower priority

Re: dual core help.
Real time basically just means high priority. Meaning it gets CPU cycles before other programs do. I would recommend setting your priority to normal and affinity to core 1. Core 0 is usually less stable on dual cores while overclocked, which some theorize is due to the OS and other programs mainly using core 0.Originally posted by Bio_Terrawhat exactly does "Real Time Priority" mean?
Here is what my shorcut reads:
"D:\Downloaded files\prioaff\prioaff.exe" 2 10 "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1

Amd X2 CPU driver + MS Dual core hotfix = problem solved.
