I have two hard drives you see, and one, the C drive is pretty full. So I installed Battlefield 2 on the F drive instead. But now, when I go to install the Special Forces, it dosen't seem to recognise that I have not installed it on the C drive. Instead it gets stuck at the installing patch point. Is there any way to get around this and play SF?

Are you saying that you installed BF2 on the C: drive, and then tried to install SF on the F: drive? If so, I'm guessing you pro'ly need to have SF installed on the same drive as BF2--after all, the patch over writes vBF2 files, and SF and vBF2 both share files...
I also did something similar to what you did, but I went from having vBF2 and SF on my fairly new primary HD. When I reformatted it, I moved BF2 and SF to an slightly older 19gb Fujitsu 7200rpm.
Uggh. It was awfulllly slow, and the reason is that the old fujitsu (still a 7200rpm) could only run in PIO mode under XP. The SF patching process lasted 40 mins. Seriously! It was terrible, and the loading times, "veryifying client data" went to upwards of 7-9 minutes in some cases. On servers running 2 map series that swapped teams after the first win, I was typically joining right before my team lost the first map.
Arghh. Anyway, I'd try clearing out some hard drive space from one of your HD's and installing vBF2 and SF on the same drive.
Edit: Oops. Guess you're not saying that. Sorry.
