Which Graphics Card??????

Hi, I am looking to get a new graphics card and I can't figure out wich one is the best for BF2. The two cards I am choosing from is either:

-512MB PCI-Express x16 ATI RADEON™ X1900 XTX
or
-Dual 256MB PCI-Express x16 NVIDIA® GeForce™ 7800 GTX - SLI Enabled

I got 2G of memory and I am running a:
AMD® Athlon-64 FX-60 Dual Core CPU w/ Hyper Transport Technology

My mother board is set up for SLI so don't wory about that but I am just asking you guys if you have any suggestions on wich one to get???

There is a follow up to this week's earlier update regarding patch 1.21 found today over at the Official Battlefield 2 website. Here's what they had to say this time around:

Good day soldiers, We want to let you know that we have been making great progress on patch 1.21 and are happy to share with you some of the issues that are being addressed. The patch will be tested in a limited beta starting the end of this week. We're working around the clock to minimize your wait on the release of 1.21 but at the same time want to make sure that the patch is thoroughly tested before it goes out officially.

Below is a list of the current confirmed fixes

* Crash bug when using Hummer with TOW in the Special Forces expansion pack has been fixed
* Screen capture is now working
* Performance issues with certain ATI cards has been addressed
* Server browser can now filter by map name
* Claymores - the number that can be dropped at any one time has been reduced to 2

The x1900 is the better buy, and cheaper. If you must go SLI dual 7800GT or 7900GT will be much cheaper, spending $800-$900 on a video card is absurd, hell even spending $600 is, but i degress.

Performance wise one card gives a good value the second card is giving 20-50% speed increase if that for 100% cost increase.

If you want to spend a sane amount of money the x1900XT not the XTX is a good buy for a single card. People wonder why video card prices are rising, I will tell you why, its because nuts (no offense to you) are spending close to a grand on video cards to get 10 more FPS.

TRue but the XTX and XT are the exact same card, only the XT is clocked slightly lower. Its a loss of like 0-5FPS in most benchmarks/games for $100 savings. No brainer to me.

sigh, i hate these kind of threads... dudeee it doesnt matter which one you take, two things are certain you're gonna lose a lot of cash and no matter what card you buy you can run all games on reaaallyyy high settings

Just becuase EA/Dice screwed the last patch up for some ATI users doesn't mean you shouldn't buy an ATI. Most problems happened with the really old ATI crappy cards anyway. I've heard some pretty good stuff about the X1900. I know thats what I'd get!

My system specs are identical to yours and I've been using the 7800GTX's in SLI mode for a couple of months now. Works great for me.

I wouldn't recommend Crossfire at this time, from my experience they're still buggy...

If you have an SLi board it would be silly to get an ATI card. However if you're looking to upgrade then go with the XTX along with a Crossfire motherboard. If you put two XTXs in a crossfire setup they will outperform even dual 7800GTX 512s.

I've got dual gtx's and i love 'em but from what i've read on the xtx you might as well spring for that....
in the future you can always pick up another one and run crossfire.
only downside to that is you'd also have to buy a crossfire enabled mobo.

just my humble opinion though.

I would go for the X1900XT, it's like 40mhz difference in clock speeds compared to teh XTX. THe X1900XT overclocks very well, and it is about equal to two 7800GTXs in SLi. Then later, u have room to upgrade by bying a crossfire board (when they get cheaper), and then u can get a X1900 CF edition (also when it gets cheaper). Either that, or wait for the 7900GTX.
