I have a ati saphire radeon 9250 128mb which apparently seriously sucks eggs even though I've just managed to get post patch bf2 up and running after a fashion but I'm considering an ebay buy but what should I be looking for. I'm in Aus and I don't want to kill the bank account. Oh yeah, I have a P4 2.4gmhz with 512mb 333ddr ram, gigabyte mobo 22" monitor 120mhz refresh. TIA guys :)

^ its AGP they dont make 9250 PCiexpres. I would say getting a 6800 series and 512 (or more) ram. maybe a gig of ram and a 6600gt, or 512 more ram and a 6800 something. that wont break the bank, there ARE some good ATi cards agp too, such as the x700 AGP. but I HIGHLY recommend having AT LEAST one gig of ram. then i would choose from some of these cards:
x700 AGP
6800 vanilla AGP (you can unlock it to a GT sometimes)
6600gt (with more than a gig of ram)
6800GS
9800pro
all those seem reasonable. but i highly suggwest more ram. ram is another deal though.Comment

I just got my BFG 6800GS OC for $225. AWESOME card for the money. It runs BF2 on all high settings at 60fps. Granted, I also have 2gb of RAM. I think you can get an eVGA card for under $200. Check http://www.newegg.comComment

wow, thanks for all the replies, I'm going to get another stick of ram, I guess as long as it says it's 333 ddr it should be ok to buy yes? I found on ebay a stick of used 512mb ram 2700, not sure what the 2700 means tho'
I looked at all the cards that have been suggested, should I be looking at a 512 or is a 128 enough, I'd like to keep it under the A$175.00 if possible. You guys have been a big help so far, there's so many different cards to choose from its hard to know what's what really

I have a 6600oc,PCI-e and I can run everything on high. I dont get the high framrate as a 68, but for the cash I spent on it, its great!

For that amount i guess 6800GS. And about the memory try to match it. Meaning same size, manufacture(if possible), and CAS timings. Also get is so you will only have either 2 or 4 sticks at a time on your mobo, that way they will run at DDR speeds.Comment

jesus.. id never buy RAM from ebay unless the guy had an absolutely holy reputation. there are so many things that can go wrong with RAM yet it will still boot up, go through the post-check and 'seem' OK... that is until you start getting corrupt saves, corrupt downloads, random system crashes, etc.
heres 512 megs of 400mhz DDR for $29:
i dont think it would be much cheaper on Ebay, and you risk getting a bad stick that is useless to you. sure, a lot of people sell memory that is perfectly good, simply because they upgraded to larger sticks or faster memory, but there are also a lot of dishonest people that unload their defective parts on ebay to unsuspecting buyers. the average comp illiterate buyer could install a bad stick of RAM and never know why their comp is exhibiting all sortsof strange problems. in fact, if you use the bad stick as the second stick of RAM, the problems could only come out when that area of the memory is being addressed, which would be rarely in average desktop use.
a 512 meg stick of RAM is dirt cheap brand new, and you get a warranty and the chance to return it if there is anything wrong or if its DOA. you are also 100% sure to receive it from the store, which is more than i can say for EBAY.Comment
