Re: my disc makes a noise when in the drive
That could be a sign of a bad dvd drive. Or the disk could be damaged, look at the bottom and see what kind of shape the disk is in. Ive had dvd drives go out the same way.

Re: my disc makes a noise when in the drive
Hmmm.. sounds like a bit of ****sack to me. Have you got another drive/PC you can test the disc in for me? How long (roughly) do you wait before furiously beating your keyboard (no sexual gaming geek metaphor intended) and it not responding?
Can you also hit Ctrl + Alt + Delete and click performance to see what your CPU usage is, both before and during this 'not responding'.
Also, close any unnecessary background tasks - this includes Anti-virus, firewall, etc. But remember to enable them again afterwards.
Edit: Are you sure it's a DVD drive? Are you talking about Counter-strike: Source, or 1.6?

Re: my disc makes a noise when in the drive
Since this is probably a drive issue: moving to hardware.

Re: my disc makes a noise when in the drive
so if it works on my mates pc and all my other games work on my dvd drive then it has to be a problem with hardware or somet

Re: my disc makes a noise when in the drive
It could be that the DVD they used for BF2 is not compatable with your hardware. ive had that happen a few times.

Re: my disc makes a noise when in the drive
hi i had the same problem when i 1st bought bf2 i had a lg dvd rom,and the dam game would not work on it.but fine on my m8 dvd.Originally posted by warrior1986hi im new to this game and iv just bought it today. when i first tried the game it makes this weird crackling noise in the dvd drive and nothing comes up on the screen, so i took the game back and swapped it for another but it still ameks this noise and the game still wont run. iv tried going on to my computer and doing it from there but it says my computer is not responding. can some1 please help me fix this problem because all my other games work fine coz i play counter strike and half life 2 which both are used in my dvd drive.
i found out that some dvd players cant accesess certain copyprotection disk i.e bf2. but try telling this to them in the shop they have no idea.
so you basacly need to do what i did and go buy a dvd burner that way ur 99% garanteed it will work,i use a nec dvd bruner duel layer, and its fine.
if any one else on this post could post there dvd player name then maybe it will help this guy get a good dvd that works with bf2.
p.s my old lg dvd playes any game dvd or film dvd but not bf2 makes a weird spinning noise and hangs the cpu.

Re: my disc makes a noise when in the drive
You could always just go to your friends house and ask him if you can borrow his entire drive. Once you get BF2 installed you could download a cd image and never worry about the cd again. This is the cheap way out though, if something goes wrong and you have to reinstall it will be a real hassle...
