    Installing a Sound Card

i was wondering what u have to do to install a sound card. my friend just got a sound card to fix a problem and he wanted to know if it would be easy or hard to install it. Do you just put the card in, then install the drivers. or is there some BIOS setup? thx

I run about all meduim and textures on high. I have the hypermemory version. Its definetly a big jump from the x200 because one of my friends has a x200 and another has an x300 but if i where u I would go for a little bit better one.

Just stick the sound card into one of the PCI slots. Check it over and over to make sure it is in there very well. If it it just a tiny bit lose, you may end up with problems. Once the card is in, just install the drivers that come with it and you should be all set.

                Re: Installing a Sound Card

I recently had a large thunderstorm and it completely fried my onboard sound. I just got a new card, plugged it in, installed drivers, and then went to control panel > sounds and audio devices > Clicked on the Audio TAB and selected my sound card. Worked fine after that. I would suggest trying my method. If that doesn't work, you can always try disabling onboard sound in your BIOS. Usually your computer will be able to just pick up the sound right off the sound card after you select it though.

As soon as your computer is starting up, press the "Delete" key repeatedly until a different screen pops up. Then just browse around until you find "Audio" or something like that. But be careful! Don't change anything else! Especially if you don't know what it is!
