Someone tell me what the major difference between these cards is, one is £100 more then the other. I know the GTX has better clock speeds and pixel pipelines etc, but I heard you can break the barrior on the pipelines with the 7800GT making it up to 23/24 pixel pipelines.


So really are you going to notice much difference with a 7800GT in game and a 7800GTX, ok in other words, will the 7800GT run BF2 on everything top inc resolution?

So my question cut short is:

Will there be much difference between both cards, in-games, not just BF2 other games too?

i have my settings 1280x1024 4aa on a 32 player i get around 65fps

64 player since 1.2 it goes between 35-60fps

the gtx will give you more fps at 1280x1024 but not much more but if you want to go higher say 1600x1200 you might want to get a gtx

and you cant unlock the piplines on a 7800gt there locked in but it overclocks well

from first hand expirence get either the EVGA or XFX cards

You can't unlock the GT. Or that would be worldnews to me. To be honest, just for BF2, a GT will do just fine. You will enjoy >=60 fps with either card. If you like to get close to a 100 fps go for the GTX, if you don't mind getting 80fps all maxed out, get the GT.

Not enough of a difference to warrant the £100 price difference. If you overclock the gt, you can get games to play as good as a stock gtx. Yes, a gt will be able to play with max settings @ 1280x1024... not too sure how good it does at 1600x1200 though

No difference between 1280 and 1600. Over here at least. But to be honest, get a x1800xt 512 mb, if it is just solely for BF2. It's cheap and gets better results than both Nvidia cards. Not an Ati fan myself, but card really has excellent performance in BF2. Beats the GTX. And since the x1900xt is out, you can get it rather cheap.

k, thanks but to add its not just for BF2, I got other games on here like F.E.A.R. and CSS (if I could log into my Steam account), Doom3 etc

I bassically want a card, that I don't have to update for a long time (as im only 16), and that it will play all my games, and games comming out in the future, such as Quake wars which looks tha shiz to run on top settings, being logical the games comming out in the future will demand more, so for the time being I want a gfx card that will play current games and games not that far away from now at a high spec.

Anyway to those of you who said that you can't unlock the pixels, take a look at this, you know the graphics cards you see on websites such as ebuyer and what not, and it has reviews, well I looked at what people said and one of them mentioned he had a prog to unlock them, let me quote the dude then post the link

The 7800GT cant be unlocked. Only clock speed and pipes are the difference.

in other games, the GTX will perform a tinnny bit better, maybe a little more than a tiny bit, but best bang for the buck is the GT. if you're rich, than go with the GTX, but you can OC the gt and get it very close in performance. but if you have the $$ wait for the 7900.

^ Or if you don't have the money for the 7900, wait till the 7900 comes out and buy a GTX. It'll be much cheaper. Or If you don't want to have to upgrade later in the year, wait for the Dx10 cards.

yep yep, what he said exactly. do you think the 7900 will be dx10? if not thats a waste of money, and IF it is, that would be one reason it ownz the x1900.

Although I'm a Nivida fan, I should recommend you the x1800xt 512MB, it's shaped for the future. That's the card you'll want. Look on google:

It's at the same price as a 7800gt, but has a hell lot more of performance.

The 7900 will be the last dx9 card from nvidia, they will implement dx10 in the 8xxx series.

will the dx10 cards just go in the normal pci e sockets ??? because im not gonna exchange my mobo for am2.. just gonna buy the new x2 proc that's coming out

yes they will go in normal PCIe slots, I dont know if there will be AGP ones. theres a new x2 proc coming out? just make sure its not the AM2 one, lol. but yeah, if you want a dx10 card and you have a pciexpress slot youll be fine... but then you're gonna need vista -__-.
