Is anyone running a 7800GS? Think about giving one to my kid brother.

Hey guys,

is anyone running a 7800GS. My kid brother's birthday is around the corner. He still runs an AGP system. Is anyone running a 7800GS? If so, could you please state your experiences. He now runs a 6600GT 256MB.

It depends on the rest of his system...maybe his CPU is currently a bottleneck, meaning you're wasting money.

You'd be a much NICER brother to buy him a 7800 PCIe/mobo combo.

I just bought him an AMD64 3200 with 1GB with a 6600Gt 256Mb. But hell, the kid's birthday is around, with the 7800gs he can come by for the next year. So, anyone has firsthand experience with this card?

I just bought him an AMD64 3200 with 1GB with a 6600Gt 256Mb. But hell, the kid's birthday is around, with the 7800gs he can come by for the next year. So, anyone has firsthand experience with this card?

I'm running e-vga's 7800 GS CO and it whups ass compared to my 9600XT.

Running everything on high and 4xAA on 1152*864 with no hiccups at all.

Just make sure that he can spare one connector from his psu to connect to the vid card and nothing else.

e-vga's 7800 GS CO is faster than BFG's 7800 at the moment. Plus e-vga has an even faster 7800 called the GS CO Superclocked.

Their trade up offer is also pretty sweet.

Hey mate, what score do you get on 3DMark05? Could you possibly run:

renderer.drawfps 1 for me on a 64-player server settings 1600x1200 all high?

This would give me an indication as to wether it's worth it. He now runs 1600x1200 4AA All high at 30 fps on a 64 player server. He has abit better cpu. But well, it would give me an idea.

Make sure A. his PSU can handle it.
and B (this is only a strong suggestion, not a need) he should probably have 2 gigs of ram to get constant FPS on high settings. The 7800GS will be a huge improvment anyyways, but another gig of ram will help a lot too. But yeah getting a him a 7800gs would be really nice. He could play at 2x (maybe 4x) AA and all high except lighting until he got another gig.

on a 6600gt you sure?

most 6600gt can only run meduim/high 1024x768 meduim/high without crashing and burning

i only run my 7800gt at 1280x1024 4aa

Yeah, I'm sure, tweaked the hell out of the system. Running at 1600*1200, ultrahigh expect lightning at medium, averages on 40fps
