Just treated myself to a Xi-Fi Music SB, a few questions to those that have one

Hey guys,


after putting in a ton in Xi-Fi cards for other people's systems, I just bought a Xi-Fi Music myself. I downloaded the driver dated 02 nov 05 from the creative website and it works perfect. I can select hardware and Ultra Xi-Fi settings. I do have a few questions.

- I didn't install any of the creative software bundle. Should I install it? Is it worth the trouble or might it ruine my setup?

- What configuration settings are you using? What do you think makes the best settings? Could you post a picture of your settings?

- What are the gimmicks of the card? Could one post some examples?

- With the card being able to handle 127 channels. Is there some trick to mute the channel that says:

enemy spotted
enemy on the move
uav airborn

On a note, for those who might buy one in the near future, on the very basic settings by only just installing the drivers, the sound is:

- More Crisp, clear and detailed

- Surround effects are phenomenal

Worth every penny!

i don't own one, but i am possibly in the market for an X-Fi card. what did you upgrade from? i currently have an Audigy 2 ZS.

I upgraded from a 8 channel realtek AC97 onboard which allowed software, EAX, high settings. Buy one, you won't regret it.

No. Unnecessary. You can access all of the settings through this app:
"C:\Program Files\Creative\AudioCS\CTAudCS.exe"

I run in Game mode 100% of the time (I don't watch movies on my PC...I use XBOX Media Center for that ) and listening to .mp3s sound great even in this mode.

I have 24 bit crystallizater enabled with slider in center.
I have EAX enabled at 0db.
I have bass redirection (80Hz) and subwoofer gain enabled.
I have the EQ enabled with a slight bass and treble boost (personal preference).
I have CMSS3D Surround disabled (I use 5.1 speakers).

24 bit crystallizer - use it for .mp3s. Makes sounds 'fuller' like the WOW effects in WMP.
EAX volume slider - you can actually boost the volume of EAX effects in games like BF2 to make them more pronounced.
CMSS3D - used with stereo headphones can give you near-true surround experience

I got the X-Fi Fagtality edition on deal from QuakeCon 2005 and I love it!

Just remember that if you switch from Game to Entertainment mode, you'll run into audio problems in BF2.

I can hear a difference between the two, so to keep myself from forgetting to change the setting I just leave the console up and switch it back when Im done.

Where are these setting located, can't seem to find them in the Audio Console.

I have a few questions about them too, since I will be getting one soon.

1. do you HAVE to have those lame programs for them running 24/7, and how much RAM and CPU do they waste?

2. if I use iTUNES to listen to my music, does the card still affect the sound quality, or do I have to use THEIR music software?
