Dual channel memory help!

I just ordered a 512Mb stick of RAM and the vendor sent me a stick with a cas latency of 3 while my other RAM modules have a cas latency of 2.5. I still tried to run the memory but I get the message " System failed due to CPU overclocking". I called the tech support and they told me I can try a 2.5 module which might not work even though the modules would have the same latency and stats they also said that I would need a dual channel memory kit to ensure proper function.

Now I have 3x VS512MB400 corsair sticks while the other is VS512MB400C3 and I was told I could only exchange the memory once on orders not twice.

If I get another 512Mb DDR400 corsair stick wit the same cas latency of 2.5 will it absolutely work in dual channel?

in BIOS turn the latency on the new RAM down to 2.5

It would be better for stability's sake to turn the others to CAS 3.

I tried booting with the cas latency set at 3 but the PC just didn't boot this time without the "Overclock failure" message. I'll exchange the cas 3 stick for a cas 2.5 and hopefully that will work.

If you are try'n to run 4 double sided chips most mobo's will only run PC400 @ 333 & if you try to run them @ 400 you will get the overclock error

It only really applies to A64s.

I should automaticly downclock them.

It doesn't have to do with the MOBO, it has to do with the CPUs on-die memory controller.

Try using all 4 sticks at 200mhz(400), but at 2T command rate.

You will find somehwere in your BIOS a setting called CR or Command Rate. You will either have the option of selecting 1T or 2T, or it will be offered as 1T Enabled or Disabled.

Put it on 2T and try again. If that doesn't work, set your modules to 166mhz(333) and the command rate to 1T.

333 @ 1T
or
400 @ 2T

The ram settings are also somewhere in your BIOS. Read your manual or browse through the BIOS thoroughly.
If you are unsure of any changes you made, simply exit BIOS without saving.
