Going to upgrade to 2GB of RAM.

Right now I have 4x256MB PC3200, so my question is get 2x1GB or 4x512MB, just whatever will run best, and run games and BF2 smooth no lag or trips especially in big maps, because when I disconnect from BF2, I get the caution sign in the taskbar saying im low on free memory.

So which is better to get?

I'd get 2x 1GB sticks this way u have room to upgrade in future.

Alright on the RAM brand, Corsair seems to be the choice of the gamer, so I found 2GB at a good price: Corsair 2GB DDR XMS3200PT TwinX (2x1GB) CAS3 (MY-039-CS) A matched pair of 1GB XMS3200PT memory modules - 2GB total - ideal for dual DDR motherboards. Memory timings of 3-3-3-8. but if anyone likes, they can choose a good 2x1GB kit from here: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatal...orsair_65.html try not make it too expensive, yet again I need it to be quite cheap but good quality and will run BF2 very well no problems. If you want, you can find me a better brand or price on another 2x1GB kit, try make it from overclockers or a U.K website.

that is a waste. you are gonna spend 200$ for minimal performance increas. Plus, you might have more slots open to use in the future, but it wont matter because windows doesnt register more than 3.5GB. so you are serisouly wasting a lot of money.

yupz two gigs are a total waste of money, really i've tried putting 2 gigs in this computer loads of time.. didnt got rid of anything or improved anything... just dont get crazed out by ppl who say you need it for battlefield 2, non sense...

Corsair is the choice of the uninformed masses.

Guys I don't know if you realize he is going from 1Gb (4 x 256), to 2Gb (2 x 1GB).
This is going greatly increase smoothness of your game and decrease map load times substantially. If you play on high settings you need at least 1.5Gb of ram so BF2 doesn't access your page file. This has been proven, so I don't know why you all insist that it's not the case.

Not the problem, I just get bad lag on big maps, so if I hop in a jet and fly, im in the air and it suddenly freezes, a second later im crashed into the water.

I don't think any of us 2giggers ever said you NEED 2 gigs, as in it won't work without it...

what we have been saying for months, and what has been confirmed by every single review of the game using both 1 and 2 gigs all say unanimously that 2gigs straightens out lots of loading issues throughout the map.

Besides, if you're spending money on new ram modules, don't you think perhaps 6 months from now there will be other games utilizing more than 1 gig?

If you buy 512 modules today, you'll be stuck running an overloaded memory controller when you do feel the NEED to go 2 gigs finally.

So it's better to get 2x1024 now instead of screwing yourself further down the road.

Also, recent tests have concluded that 2x1024 is better than 4x512..which makes the decision even more simplistic.

That is exactly the problem then. The freezing and stuttering is a symptom of the game accessing the page file instead of using physical ram. Getting 2Gb will cure this issue.
