    My rig

    Hi,

Firstly do you think its normal that my pc runs bf2 on high/medium graphics. *Spec in sig

And also i recently built my new pc do you reckon it will make much of a difference if i do a clean install of xp?

Clean installs on XP are always nice for the first week or so. If you had 2GB of RAM, you could run all high, but you will most likely get some stuttering and lag. You do have a pretty good setup, just try and get 2X1GB and you'll be all set for a while.

What would happen if i put 4x512mb of ram? Will it be considerably worse than 2x1gb?

Depends on the ram and your setting's, but you probably wouldn't notice.

You would drop down to a 2t command rate and prob ddr 333, so go with 2x1gb.

If the lesser of the ram is timed bad and the speed is 333. But if he has 4x512 3200 400mhz, their really is no difference. Going with the same speed and ram ensures perfomance for the speeds they are rated at.

It doesn't matter, even if the ram is the same if all 4 banks are populated it will go to 2t and it might drop down to ddr 333.

Never had an issue with that, over 3 different pc's and 2 with 2 gigs, both have NEVER defaulted to a lesser ram speed. But both those rigs have the same 4x512 ram in them. Did I miss something the poster mentioned, because it should'nt default to a lower speed with equal modules.

All amd procs have the mem controller on the cpu, and the current controller can't handle all banks populated with at least going down to 2t. Intels don't, so they don't have that problem.

Unless you have a newer CPU, and I mean within the past month or so, you will run at 2T and DDR333. AMD 64's memory controllers are on the chip and they aren't able to run 1T and DDR400 with 4 sticks of RAM. The newer chips are supposed to be able to run 4 sticks at 1T and DDR400, but I haven't seen it said anywhere officially that it's working. I would just stick with 2X1GB.
