    High Graphics

Hi im getting a custom build computer which is:
    AMD Athlon 64 3700
    1.2gb ddr400 3200 ram
Geforce 6800GS 256mb ultra gamer edition

with these specs would i be able to play battlefield 2 on high graphics. So it would look like the screenshots on this sight because these screenshot look really great. My computer should be coming soon so just wondering what type off speed it will run it.

If you want high textures you'll need at least 1 1/2 gb RAM (Do you have 1024mb RAM or 1200mb RAM? Because if it's 1024mb then you only have 1gb). I don't see any other thing that'll stop you playing high settings.

NP, no need to apologise :)

As far as I know you don't actually 'need' 2gb RAM to run high textures. I have 2GB because it may last longer for future games. I'm guessing you may get around 40+ FPS on that, i'm not sure so don't take me up on it!

            Re: High Graphics

            I'm running:
            2.4ghz HT
            2gig PC3200
            evga 6800 128mb

I can run the game on medium pretty well but my shadows can do some funny stuff. I also find that the load time is significantly longer from when I used to play on low settings. So as long as you don't mind coming in after the round has started you might be able to play on high just fine.

Also, look at some SS, there's not much of a difference between medium and high imho.

                AMD Athlon 64 3400
                1.5gb ddr400 3200 ram
                Geforce 6800GT 256mb
                Sound Blaster X-fi card.:)
on 1280X1024 19" Viewsonic LCD screen.
                4AA 2AF
                nothing OC

Just some info for you bud. My system above runs on everything on Max except ~Dynamic lighting that’s on medium I think it is. The computer seemed to take a small hit with dynamic lighting on full and I could not tell the difference on medium so set it that way. Anyway using fraps I get between 34+ to 80 fps with it usually sitting nicely around 45+ but goes down to 34 in like a street fire fight with loads of players but that never lasts long.

I did buy a Sound Blaster creative X-fi Music card recently it was like having a new game the sound is now on the best settings and what a difference with directional awareness, night and day from the old onboard sound chip on the motherboard.
I’d say if you can add that get it trust me. oh aye and Icemat head set!

What I would say is I have zero set for my swap file which I found helped this game no end to make it smooth online even on 64 maps.

There is a web page with hints on settings with some great info.

Hope your system goes well mate, there’s nothing like waiting on a new toy, sorry I mean sensible system.

I have almost the same setup as you except I bought the 7800 geforce instead. I run everyything maxed with 2 gigs of 3200.

I almost always load the fastest into the game except maybe one or two others so I would probably be 1st all the time if I lessened them but the thrill of the high graphic settings makes the game SUPERB

If you want funny shadows turn everything to low and for some reason shadows show through walls roofs etc making it easier to loacte enemies. I'll try and get a screeny to make it clearer. I can't play on everything low though it just doesn't do it justice.

I'm upgrading my memory to 2gb soon also but was wondering whether or not to get the X-fi. I currently just have onboard sound so is it really worth it??

I dunno about x-fi but I got an audigy2 when they first came out and it was so amazing I almost cried. An upgraded sound card and klipsch 5.1 will get you all the girls. :p

Yup, i also suggest 2BG, faster loading, no lag (only server sided lag sometimes, but that's not my fault)

                          I have
                          A64 3700+
2gb Corsair RAM 2-3-3-6 timings (better timings really makes an improvement! and 1T on that of course)
                          7800GT

nothing overclocked atm and I run with the high setting and then the resolution bumped up to 1600x1200 and I rarely notice any fps drops.

Also I would recommend getting 2gb straight away as you otherswise most likely will be using 4 memory sticks and that will lower your performance as they will run in 333MHz due to limitations in the A64 memory controller.

Also don't use 3 memory sticks as that will disable Dual-channel memory and give lower performance too. A good 2gb Corsair kit ain't that expensive anyway IMO.

So what I am trying to say is DO NOT use 2x512+2x256, 3x512 or something. I recommend either 2gb ram with 2x1024gb or 2x512mb. 4x512 is not recommended either.

                            Re: High Graphics

                            i got a

                            3000 amd
                            6600 gt
                            1 gig ram

and im running it in high, 4x aa, and 2x af.
and got around 60 to 70 FPS, it can drop a bit in heavy fire fights ore when the arty comes raining down.

u should really try one of those modified drivers,
they give me a boost of 20 to 30 FPS

so i don't think u have any trouble playing the game on high
