    DVD RW quit again

OK this is the 2nd time this has happened to me.

The first time was the first time I try'd to install BF2, it was my other AMD +3000 Win XP x32 machine. You see the first time I try'd to install BF2 I used a MSI DVD-RW and the install crashed and the DVD never worked again. Windows would see it report NO problems But the drive would Not recognize anything put in it. I just wrote it off as a bad drive even though it was only 3 months old.

Now it has happened again on my new comp its a NEC DVD-RW and I try'd to insall TRON 2.0 that a freind gave me. The install crashed and now the DVD drive is borked. Windows sees the drive device manager reports NO PROBLEMS but the drive wont read a disk and its only 2 months old.

Any body seen this kind of behavior before I've done many searches found nothing aparently this has only happened to me

I've try'd firmware update it goes just fine but does not fix & I've uninstalled & reinstalled the drivers nothing works.

    Re: DVD RW quit again

Is it the only drive on its IDE Channel?

I'd try replacing the IDE cable, it could be going bad.

A good clue would be if any other drives on that channel are not working right either. But its atleast worth a shot to replace it.

    IDE cables are cheap anyway.

It might be a psu issue, but you should check the cable first.
