Alright so i am probably going to buy a stick of 512mb ram, but i need to figure out which stick i should get. Basically i have a PC2100 stick now (which explains why i am having slowdowns), and am wondering if i should get another pc2100 stick or a 3200 stick (i belive that RAM can only run at the slowest stick's speed, correct me if im wrong, so there would be no point in buying a 3200 if i couldn't run it that fast anyways) Thanks, and any other input is aprichated.

Re: Ram upgrades question
wellll Ill give you a long definition, to the best of my knowledge. IF your mobo supports dual channel, and you get the SAME EXACT stick of pc2100, you can run in dual channel, which performs better. If you cannot get the SAME EXACT stick, or your mobo does not support dual channel, get the 3200 stick. this way, in the future you can maybe replace the 2100 stick with another 3200. -

Re: Ram upgrades question
Conceded to the fact that 2x512mb of Value ram in PC3200 speeds can be found for around 50-60 bucks.
I paid 88$ shipped from newegg for some pretty good Kingston RAM PC3200 2x512mb a YEAR ago.
Cough up the money and get a real performance gain.Comment

Re: Ram upgrades question
What he said ^ and make sure the RAM you buy is supported by your motherboard. Seeing as how you already have 1 stick of 1gb, you could get another stick of pc3200 1gb and maybe upgrade the other one later.
EDIT: Damn CaptJordus beat me, i'm refering to sackynut's post.Comment

Re: Ram upgrades question
I am planning to get a new computer in 1 to 2 years (depending on the needs of Vista and upcoming games). Would it make sense for me to buy another gig of 3200 now and then when i build my new computer, make sure it uses the same kind of ram and reuse the same stick (note: the new computer will be amd bases with pci express, if that makes any difference)Comment
