I'd go with a DC pump as they are safer. Avoid CPU block with acryllic as they tend to crack and leak over time. They may look pretty but not worth it IMO.
I'm pretty sure that's just acrylic trim. It's bolted to the top of the block. It's not actually a part of the system. If you look at the enlarged picture you'll see that it's not giving a view to the inside. You can see the copper top.
Yeah, I'm not sure whether to go dc or ac. Better pump choices with AC, and besides possible leak potential increasing with a constantly active system, what else is bad about AC?

I just don't like the fact that it's not directly tied to the PSU. Even with the realy it just adds another peice that can fail.
