That kinda makes me wanna wait on building my new PC in 3 weeks. Anyone know when the new card comes out (exact date) and how much its gonna cost.

Cause im building a new PC and i was gonna go with one 7800GTX but if the 7900 is right around the corner and is $600 and under i can get it.

begin march is launch of 7900 series .
It has been taped out about a month ago .
should be around 600-650$ , but don't expect it to be in the stores from launch date like the 7800 was, now Nvidia is in a bigger hurry with the x1900 out .

stupid poll , x1900 is just out, 7800 is like 6 months out, if you read a review, you will know, and it looks like you are some ATI boy, well, my friend, ATI has been strugling for the last half year with no answer to the 7800 , now they have one, but next month it will be all over again

yup...i totally agree...and for people who keep thinking "why ATI why!!!" here is the answer.........

                " pipelines " . That's where they fell behind

                  indeed, but...

ATI and Nvidia are going on a diffirent path , this since the X1800 and more with the X1900 series .

ATI is gambling at this moment, they keep the 16 pipelines but put 45 shader processors , wich are actualy somewhat the same as shader units , ATI thinks the future games will use more and more shaders in there engines , wich is offcourse true , but in how far this will go, nowbody knows, maybe the 45 shader .... is pure overkill .

Nvidia keeps it's min on the pipelines, they do push to 32 pipelines and 24 shader units , they know shader units is important, so they offcourse puch these to, but they also think the normal rendering is important, so they push the pipelines also .

This way , in the future, we will see the ATI cards performing better or lots better in some games then the nvidia games, and we will see the nvidia cards perform better or lots better in other games, depending on the game engine the games will use, and depending on how those game engines handle the textures/shaders

Re: Nvidia 7800 or ATI x1900

It's kind of funny considering I am a AMD man and was a die hard ATI man. Actually in the past I bought 1 Nividia card from PNY that fried on me after a year (yes smoke came out and stuff). But with the way cards are are now I decided recently to go back to Nividia (staying away from PNY cards though) and give 7800 a try. It's a good card. Now is the new ATI card better probable but who really wants to spend more then they paid for most components in there tower on just a card. I spent 1600$ on my current set-up thats from case to mouse. Anyways Im going to give Nividia a try for a few years again.

Dumb poll, agreed. For the sake of the poll I'll state that the 512mb 1900 XT does trump the 256mb 7800 GTX (price for price). Maybe the poll should read "1900 XT or 7800 GTX". But only because the 7900 GTX is coming out in less than a month.

Otherwise change it to '1900 or 7900' if you're wanting to compare generations correctly.

lol i read somewhere the day the 1900 came out that comanies had too much over stock and tons of units were just sitting around and no one was buying them.

I think ATI has really lost it. back in 2001 when i was sporting my Radeon 7000 ATI was better but now nVidia just blows them away.

how so? The X1900 quite clearly beats the 512 GTX and is available. Also you can get it for 490, which is basically the same price range as the 256 GTX which it completely destroys. ATI took the lead w/ the 9700 and only lost it for a few months last year when they had nothing to compete with the GTX. Also look at Nv's 7800 GS if the G71 rumored specs are ture (unlikely they couldnt cool a 32 pipe 700 mhz card very easily) the 7800 GS should be a little over half as fast as the 7900, and seeing as the X1900 is over 2x as fast as the 7800 GS in BF2, Far Cry, 4x as fast in FEAR , Quake 4, and SCCT with only a beta driver I wouldnt expect the 7900 to dominate the X1900 as much as you nv fanboys would like.
