    FYI Power consumption PC

I have bought and installed a power consumption monitor for my PC, and here are the results .

    My PC is

    - AMD 64 4000+ running @2.6 Ghz
    - Gforce 7800 GTX running @ 490/1350
    - Asus mobo
    - 2 x 80 Gb IDE HD
    - 1 X 160 Gb SATA HD
    - Soundblaster audigy 2
    - 2 x DVD RW
    - Floppy
    - OCZ 520 modstream PSU

    Well, here it is

    - When starting up : 150-180 Watt
    - When Idle : 145-150 Watt
    - When gaming (BF2) : 220-260 Watt

You see very good when the vid card starts to get it heavy, when you are running in artilery , lots of guys running around, some water in sight, you peak to 260 Watt.

Now you will probably say, ONLY 260 Watt max ??? Why the hell do they recomend and do you need 400 Watt PSU or more ?

This is because the vid card only uses about 80 to 110 Watts, you need a very good 12 V rail for that, with weaker PSU 's the 12 V rail is going to fail in keep delivering 12 V when it is under loads like this, this way the system gets unstable.

Also, while gaming itself, the hard discs and the dvd stations aren't working .
It's just the CPU, GPU, MOBO (chipset, ram) that is working

    Ok?

You just answered a question that anyone who works with PC hardware knows.

and a question that anyone who doesnt work with PC hardware is going to ask, to which the PC hardware people will reccommend a new PSU and make note of the rail issues.

and this is why there are like tons of questions here about PSU's and get like 5 tons of wrong answers here ,

As title said, it's FYI meaning FOR YOUR INFORMATION , just for info

Great post. I never knew PSUs used that less of power while gaming. Maybe buying that 600 watt psu is overkill after all.

indeed, you better buy a quality PSU from a good brand with 400W then some 600 W PSU for like 50$ .
