    Re: PC upgrade

onboard sound affects a gameplay by what? around 5% last time i checked.

Now don't you think acessing the page file is going to hurt a little more than 5% hit?

Not to mention, he can get a cheaper card (audigy 2) and still get more ram and be just as happy because he will have releived 2 "bottlenecks"

If you were a pro you would know that the Fatality verson only offers a 5 fps improvement over the Xtreme music XFi in BF2. Is that worth $120 to you?

It's outrageous that people would even suggest a sound card over 2Gb of ram. I just don't understand the logic there.

Don't get me wrong, I have an X-fi and love it. I just wouldn't choose it over 2Gb of ram.

If you dont beleive wreck, look at his post history and take the opportunity to see that he is knowledgeable about what he speaks on.

Get the RAM and a cheap soundcard. ANY card is going to take that load off the CPU.

No reason to spend more than 100$ on a sound card when your system has other bottlenecks you should attend to first.

sorry but i havent got the time to go read over his 720+ posts! lol

i was just saying what ive found from experience, i run an audigy platinum. tho its a couple years old now i did notice an improvement when i put that card in my new machine over using my 6.1 onboard sound. a good friend of mine paid out for the Fatality X-Fi and i saw the improvements on his machine. and i also run 2 gigs of ram and i would suggest it to anyone and i wasnt suggesting the card over the ram, the guy just seemed like he really wanted to upgrade his sound card!

so if capt jordus says wreck is very well informed on his computer stuff, what shud i set my pagefile at? i have 2gig ram (4 x 512 sticks) i have two hard drives and i already have the current pagefile set on the drive that doesnt hold my XP and BF2 install. ive seen conflicting info about what exactly i shud set it at, any help would be great!

About 1.5 times the ram amount as maximum and minimum the amount you have as physical ram. So, 3000 MB and 2000 MB.

            Cheers

Np, mate, you are right about the pagefile on a seperate disk. Putting it on a seperate drive wouldn't cut it. Best of luck.

                Cheers

Didn't mean to address that towards you totally, because alot of people in the thread seem to be recommending the sound over the ram.

Anyway I have my page file set to 2Gb and it's on a seperate drive. I've played with a few different settings with no real performance gain or losses, so this is just what I currently have it set to.
