    Remove gdx card fan.

Ok heres the deal. I have a graphics card with 2 small fans on the underside, one of them has a knackered beaing so it's real noisy. Going on the fac that my gfx card never reaches even half of it's alert temperature, would it be safe to just take that 1 fan off leaving the other one on without my gfx card burning out.

Contact your graphics card manufacturer. Chances are, they will SEND you a replacement fan free of charge, no questions asked.

You should NOT run a graphics card without the recommended cooling solution.

Either that or buy a 3rd party fan. But the suggestion I make above is FREE

OK thanks I will try contacting the supplier even though they 'sell' replacements on thier site.

I was thinking of putting off replacing it and buying a new card with my next paycheck but then:

      - I would be limited by AGP graphics cards with newer cards all moving to SLI which would require me buying alot more stuff which I can't affors.
      - With the release of vista coming up it looks like the hardware markets gonna shift around a bit.
      - I wouldnt be able to afford a ps3 when it comes out :P

I also have a similiar problem. I went on my manufacturers website and they said I could call a number and theyd send me a new one, but what if when I was installing the new one (which sounds sort of complicated with thermal paste and all) I broke my card, I mean would I be screwed? lol

That's certainly the best of the FX series cards. Certainly worth trying to get a replacement fan for it.

Some people aren't comfortable installing fans. If you are not, see if you have a friend or relative who would feel more comfortable installing it.

If you are sick of your card..then by all means, a failing fan can certainly be a good reason to upgrade
