Best AGP upgrade

Hi guys,

Really sorry if there is already a good AGP specific thread on this but searching on AGP didn't give me any results....so:

I've just been given a free machine:
AMD 64 3000+
1 gb pc 3200 (soon to be 2gb)

I currently have a 9800 pro 128mb in there but would really like to update to a better card. I've done a lot of looking but have been having real trouble finding decent AGP cards that aren't massively expensive. My main interest is playing BF2 hence aiming my request here.

What do people think would be a good card to go for. I'm reluctant to spend much more than £200. Or should I look at forking out on a new card AND a pci-e mobo (a little expensive unless people can convince me).

Thanks. Looking at the outrageous prices people seem to want for an AGP 6800GT it would actually be cheaper to buy a new mobo and the pci-e version.

It is true, sorry Nvidia, the x850xt pe is the best card for agp. Good luck finding one for a decent price, you'll pay as much as a 7800 gt. (makes no sense).

Go for a new mobo and pci card, I would advise a SLI mobo for future upgrades.

It's still a kickass card.

If you cannot afford a 7800GTX, go for the 6800GT.

It's reallly not worth sticking with AGP now if you have &#163;200 to spend on a system,
With &#163;200 you should have enough cash for a SLI mobo (approx &#163;50) and a 6800GS PCIE (approx &#163;150 & performance on a par with the 6800GT).

6800GS at Overclockers.co.uk.

Put your old mobo and gfx card on Ebay and you'll probably recoup some of the cost.

Just upgraded to the x850 pro AGP. Upgraded from a 9600, very happy with the results. I did the BIOS update on the card and was able to get it to OC to 540 from 500 but was not able to unlock the extra 4 pipes that most sites say you can. I guess a few versions of the card are not able to unlock the extra pipes. I am happy no the less GREAT card for the money. I played the game with all setting on med now run with all on high, very smooth. Made flying very easy no chop.

yeah, getting a new mobo and a PCIe 6800gs is actually much cheaper than the 6800gt. and the 6800gs performs the same and runs much much colder compared to the 6800gt. But for AGP, the x850 for sure.
