I already stated that 1 GB is enough if you tweak your pc. Some people over here swear with 2 GB. I've done over a 100 tunes especially for BF2. I know what I'm talking about:

- low level format of your harddisk - Killdisk
- G-xtreme drivers from http://www.tweaksrus.com
- latest drivers for soundcard etc

- Your new 7800 GT, it will allow ultra settings at 1600*1200

In reality, get 1 GB, if you happen to have lag, expand. But I assure you, you won't have lag. BF2 tops out at 1150 MB max of RAM use. But usually sits around the 950 MB.

One note for all those who swear by 2 GB, don't reply on my post, it's only my humble opinion.

I have to respond, because what you say is complete bs. For everyone except you and about 4 other people 1.5 to 2gb of ram is a must for all high settings, no matter what the card. For 1gb or less there will be stutter because bf2 has to access the hd swap file because there is not enough ram.

Once again Darksniper rears his ugly head. You need more than 1GB to play stutter free. I build computers too and so does a lot of other people. Get 2GB and whatever vid card you want. Another PSU is extremely recommended too.

well, get a better PSU than 350watts first of all -_-. Then, with a gig of ram and a 7800gt you should be good. It will stutter every now and then, but for the most part (if you arent running a million other processes) it should be good. But a ram upgrade for the future should be planned on. 7800gt = good good card!

I have a 7800gt paired with 2 GB of PC4000 and a dual core opteron 165 overclocked to 2.4 ghz (basically a 4800+ X2) and I have every single setting turned up. Nothing can be turned up any higher. And it runs consistently over 60fps using fraps.

I get a big boost with the dual core, as the new nvidia drivers enable both processors to share the load. Going from my 3000+ Winchester (1.8 ghz) i've noticed everything is super smooth. The 2 gigs of ram also helps me as i'm usually always the first to spawn on a map.
