    Need some help here.

Well, my friend and I are getting new pc's soon. I know his will be better than mine but by how much... He keeps insisting he will be able to run everything on high on bf2 and he says I won't be able to. I'm telling him the ram makes a HUGE difference but hes not buying it. Here are the specs for both. Mine's first...

    MINE
    AMD 64 3200+
    2gb pc3200 memory dual channel
    x850xtpe possibly overclocked
    biostar 939socket mobo
    500w psu

    HIS
    AMD 64 3800+
    1gb memory
    7800gt
    939socket mobo(dunno which 1)
    probably a 500w psu

He keeps insisting his will completely blow mine the hell away. I really don't think it will besides the cpu/video card. How much better is a 7800gt from an x850xtpe. Also, how much better is an x850xt than a 6800gt? These cards are all pci-express x16 btw.

They x850 XT PE is a great card, and yes, your system will be able to play on all high setting quite easily. Bis on the other hand, may not be able to. I doubt that he will be able to put textures on high, as (you were right) he doesnt have enough RAM. The x850 XT PE and the 7800 GT are a little bit appart, the x850 was meant to be up against the 6800 Ultra.

Look here for some comparason tables.

Mind you, without the extra RAM, he wont be able to have all on high.
His CPU ius a bit better, but that wont have much effect on the game play. I would suggest that he gets another gig of RAM. And if you can, getting a 3500+ would be very nice.

Well, I already ordered the 3200+. I was told it wouldnt be much of a problem as in bottlenecking or lag. The kid didnt believe me when I specifically said "The ram is a HUGE difference". He just shrugged it off like "hey what the hell, no it wont". He'll find out when he orders the system. I don't know whether to tell him or not. It seems as if he's trying to be better than me. Whenever I say something about mine, hes like well, mine will blow yours out of the water. I'm like "whatever, all I want to do is be able to play bf2 on high and maybe other modern games". Anyway, thanks for the help and any more from you or anyone else is greatly appreciated.

 Thats what I plan on. I know its not being a good friend but the kids an asshat when it comes to money. If hes smart, he'd take a look at the recommended specs for bf2/sf.:p
