    Quick Repair!

Ok my mother brought me over one of her friends PC, all i know from what she said is that she installed a 56k modem and it dosnt start up now

What i see and tried so far

-First the On button was pushed it so when starting it would manual turn off right away, took the front panel off

-Nothing would load up and monitor would stay at idle

    -I changed HD same problem

-I noticed the port for monitor isnt straight :/

My guess that part of the mobo might be mest up ?

    Anyone?

take out that 56K modem (do they still make those things ? ) , then try to start up .

    Doesn't work ?

    Do a CMOS reset ,
Where ? the jumper that is the most close to the battery of the mobo, just take it of and put it back on after like 10-15 sec .

    Doesn't work ?

Take out videocard (if it has one) and put another vid card in it .

If it doesn't have a vid card, put one into it .

If this doesn't work , take out a ram module .

If it only has one ram module, put another on in it .

Still won't work , put the pc in trash can (offcourse first you must beat the crap out of it)

      Flahsed the BIOS

On board vid, and only card i have is mine

      Only one ram stick

      Its a HP Pavilion a705w

That she called Hp and they said her problem was the modem so they sent her a new one, and after putting it in, blank screen

how can you flash the BIOS if you don't have visual ?

CMOS reset isn't same as bios flash .

Can you enter the BIOS ??
If so , there could be a problem with the IRQ's
        Just disable some

take out hard drive cd drives and then boot. If that fails unplug it all and just run the mobo and PSU ( did that with mine to find the problem) it should boot up saying so and so not detected. And then plug it back in one by one!
