What graphics card?

I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card, but I don't know which is the best for my budget of around AU$250; about US$195 (preferably less). Is the HIS X1600XT 256MB a good choice? The cheapest I can find is $260; about US$200. I have a PCI-E mobo btw.

My Specs:
Intel P4 Prescott w/HT 3.0GHz
1.5GB Corsair ValueSelect RAM
Antec Truepower 2.0 430w PSU

for $200 bucks you could get a 6600gt or a 6800gs.

and apparently the 6800gs beats the X1600 XT in 3dmark06.

Dude, are you retarded? He told you that the 6800GS is selling for AU$320 over there. Thats USD$260 or so and thats over his budget. How is that so hard to udnerstand.

The 6800GS does seem very tempting. It's a bit over my budget, but I could deal with it. All the cheapest 6800GS cards seem to be from InnoVISION. Anyone have any experience with them?

The X1600XT is an excellent choice if you can't get the 6800GS.

I'm gonna disagree with you on this one. The 1600 is underpowered w/ 12 pipes and falls short of the x800xl and 6800 vanilla. It's a good card for Bob Smith the accountant, but not for a gamer.

The Radon X1600XT > GeForce 6800 and 6600GT.

And thats coming from an Nvidia fanboy with a 6600GT...

If you can afford it, then definately go with the 6800GS. InnoVISION isn't exactly one of the major brands like eVGA, BFG, MSI, XFX, Leadtek, and so on. Try to see if you can find some other ones.

If none appear, then yea, go with the 6800GS.

Yeah that's a tough one. $250 will get you alot more as far as cards go. I would wait until I have enough to buy a card that is not obsolete in one years time.

PS I have heard nothing but good things about the GS.

Lol, "not obsolete in one years time." Even a 7800GT will be "obsolete" in one year's time, and he doesn't have the money to SLI 2 7800GTX-512MBs.

Ive found a good Aussie site to compare the prices and find the cheapest prices out there on the hardware in AUS.

This is what it came up with for the 6800GS.

Cheapest price $315 and thats made by Gigabyte.
Everything else is just more $$$...

The 6800GT is going for:
$365, and thats by Pixelview.

The 6800XT for:
$255 - Innovision

And the Vanilla for:
$280 - leadtek
$290 - gigabyte

Their all the 6800's that i know of. The x1600 PRO is slightly cheaper, the vanilla going for:
$187 - HIS

SO their the options there (all for PCI-e)
