How am i a fanboy? His card would own mine in 3dmark and most other games. Ive had an 3DFX voodoo 2, nvidia geforce 2, ati radeon 9800 pro and now my 7800GTX, i just try and buy one of the best cards availiable at the time, keep it until it struggles playing games on low and then upgrade. I'm not bothered about always being able to play all high. I wouldn't have bought my GTX if my 9800 pro hadn't melted due to the fan breaking and me not noticing.

And ram isn't the be all and end all. A lot is down to the chipsets now.

1900 XTX doesn't exactly smoke the 512 7800 in some games, BF2 in particular. The 7900GTX comes out in a month with 32 real pipes.

Granted, the 1900 XTX is currently the fastest card out there, and at a competitive price -and ATI get some respect for a hard launch. But wtfbbq to all this misleading 48 pipeline marchitecture (read: crap) they're selling retailers...

Out of interest -what are warranties like on ATI cards? I went to OcUK to check on warranties and no card lists it's warranty. I checked on newegg.com (briefly) and couldn't see either. ATI's awful website melted my eyeballs inside out so not much luck there. I did find this page though saying they offer a 1 year warranty -is that correct -or do some manufacturers extend that?

Ok, so before I am flamed I thought I should back up my statement. Sure, the 1900 XTX shmokes the 512 in FEAR when you start to enable AA and AF... yeah, cos we all need 4xAA at 1600x1200:P. But across the other games it's pretty even.

BF2 benchmarks from http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=29229. The rest are from THG.

Yes, the 1900XTX launch is impressive (despite ATI's misleading marketing of 48 'pipelines'). I acknowledge that it's a great launch and currently King... but what, for a month? I still believe the 7900GTX is a smarter decision based on the fact that it will come with 3 year warranties, solid drivers and 32 real pipelines; which is some serious muscle.

If the 7900GTX aint hard launched then ATI pwn the next round. And I will be sucking eggs. And playing on ATI hardware!

I don't trust benchmarks from the Inquirer, and for you to even post them as a legitimate source? Don't even get me started about THG.

Also who cares who owned what? Get a card that will play the game at the settings you want and forget about whats coming out next.

the inquirer had apples to apples benchmarks of BF2. HardOCP feels inclined to compare apples to pears (or whatever metaphor u choose). If you have a problem with benchmarks then post your own.

No need to be so hostile. I don't mean to be raining on the 1900 xtx's lovely launch... or your choice of graphics card. I made my point and I backed it up.

Speaking of Opterons, the CBBWE 0550's which are around right now are clocking this well on near stock volts.

I tend to trust Anandtech the most.

But i think it might have been this forum (or somwhere i cant remember) that someone posted a link to a website that was much like anandtech, and claimed that anandtech stole some of their testing information and passed it on as their own.

I like Xbit Labs, Anandtech, and [H]ardOCP in that order. I trust The Inquirer for News, not Benchmarks.

Agreed, though i do like hard too, there definition of playable is a little strict for my taste (they say dips under 30 are unplayable, it doesnt bug me when it goes to 25 as long as its not their constantly). All i know is my X1900XTX handles BF2 at 1600x1200 6x Adaptive AA and 16xHQAF at over 50 fps constantly, the game looks gorgeous and it plays spectacularly and thats all i need out of my card
