What does it mean when I have X-FI and R850 Series card on the same IRQ number 18?

I remember reading from somewhere that could slow your comp down a little bit?

You should set up your sound card and video card on different IRQs if you can.

This is usually done via the 'Resources' tab for a device within Windows' Device Manager interface.

I should mention that if you cannot manually configure IRQs from within Windows, then you likely have to set your 'PnP Aware OS' to TRUE in your BIOS or see if you can set the IRQs from within your BIOS.

Could you Talus give a step to step instruction here! :)
I see the IRQ 18 being used by sound- and graphiccard but like 16 17 19 are free for example. So IF I find a way to change the IRQ on the soundcard for example may I put it 17?

In everywhere only 15 IRQ's are shown as assigned (including my bios)? Why do I have IRQ's till 23?

Right-click on My Computer
Select 'Manage'
Left click 'Device Manager' to select it in the left pane
In the right pane, left click the + sign next to 'Sound, Video, and game controllers'
Find your sound card on that list and right-click it
Select 'Properties'
Select the 'Resources' tab
Scroll down until you find IRQ and left-click it
If the 'Change Settings' button appears, click it and change the IRQ to something else (prefereably an unused IRQ)
Hit 'Ok' on every window that comes up and reboot when/if asked.

If you CANNOT change the setting, let me know and we'll see if we can figure out how to change the BIOS setting needed to do this.

Ok I found the place to be but the box which says "Change this setting" or something is greyed out. And theres a box next to it that says "Use the automatic settings" or something like that. So do I need to go to BIOS and from the PnP thingy and change the IRQ setting to manual?

But I'm mixed up with these IRQ numbers. How many of them should there normally be? I've only seen 15 on other screenshots and all?

Why not just physically move the card to another PCI slot? It's a lot simpler and requires less maintenance.

Well I "can't"... In top of it is my X850XT which has a cooler that makes the card "take up two slots". And I don't think that I wanna put it on the most bottom one.

Yeah, if you cannot uncheck the 'automatic settings' box, then you have to enable 'PNP AWARE OS' or something similar in your BIOS. That should allow Windows to set the IRQs instead of the BIOS.

Ok gonna do that in near future. But Talus can you explain those numbers of IRQ's what I asked before. And if I manage to change IRQ's in which number should I assign X-FI if it does matter?

Windows will give you a list of IRQs you can change it to...and it should ALSO not allow you to change it to an IRQ that is already in use..but just check beforehand to make sure

There are about 24 IRQs

Okay I changed the only setting availeble from BIOS under the PnP thingy, but I still cannot change the IRQ on X-FI, the box is ticked which says that "Use the automatic settings" and you cannot change it!? But should that change anything on my PC? Performance, quality, anything?
