ending proccesses

i have just started to end some of the proccesses that i dont need. ive found that since then when i go to shut down itll stop at the "windows is shutting down" screen. could this be happening cuz im ending about 5 or 6 proccesses quickly? or would it have to do with the proccesses im ending?

the procceses are:
atiptaxx.exe
avgemc.exe
inCD.exe
inCDsrv.exe
PDVD.exe
and 4 HP procceses for my printer

I see nothing that would affect windows. Have you considered going to MSconfig and altering what starts up instead of shutting them down?

run msconfig, extend the .exe location section and uncheck the things that you dont want running automatically, or the things which are viruses etc. this will leave only the basics. Like, I had all these Itunes things a junk running, I now only have a few nvidiai programs, and my mouse drivers on startup. If you have over 40 processes running after startup, thats not good.

This baby turns off all of the programs that you don't need. IT is a beaut.
Turns my 37 start up programs into 17 in a few short clicks.

Yes. You go to your start button. Click run. Type msconfig. Click selective startup. Click your startup tab at the top. Then uncheck all items you would not like to start when windows starts. The only thing I have checked is my antivirus.

Are they running under the process username of SYSTEM or your login?

First of all, you are never supposed to use msconfig. The reason is because with msconfig and hardware profiles, if someone is new to this they may indeed tweak a necessary boot file and then find themselves up sh!t creek with out a paddle. With the management console (services.msc) you remove the risk associated with msconfig.

Start>Run> type in services.msc>Enter

@ Revoluti0n: I can uncheck everything in my startup tab without an issue. You don't need anything from your startup tab to start when windows boots. No one told him to click the other tabs in msconfig.

Well then you can go into your services tab and disable them. I disabled everything in there thats not Microsoft except for my antivirus. I would only recommend turning off those processes if you find them under the services tab.

Yes TBF2 is doing that for me also? Maybe it's a problem with the site, but I'm using Firefox.

Yes TBF2 is doing that for me also? Maybe it's a problem with the site, but I'm using Firefox.

im using firefox too, but mine is fine, it finishes loaing without saying that its loading still

You need to do what I just did. Export your firefox bookmarks. Uninstall all traces of Firefox. Install the new firefox 1.5 version. It fixed the browser for me.
