I've already provided links to where you can read all about the problems from other users. (I did this before you even posted.) Get a clue. It's not my job to do your research.

You clearly stated problems with Nvidia drivers were cured by the hotfix you very kindly posted before me (the one and same i may add)
The hotfix fixes issues for SP2 users, also as i previously mentioned, NOT Nvidia drivers. It has sweet bugger all to do with Nvidia drivers, just dual core CPU's and Windows XP SP2 users.
I suggest you sir, bother to look and read what i posted, and do not get yourself confused with SP2 and Nvidia drivers, they are 2 different things i would suggest.

At no point did i say anything about workarounds or anything like them, workarounds as i am sure you are aware, are not official microsoft patches.

Likewise, it is not my job to do your research sir. As i previously asked, please supply a patch that fixes issues with Nvidia drivers and dual core CPU's. Cos i am still dying to know where you can get it and maybe solve potential issues i may encounter.

I have decided to make the jump to AMD...
I mainly game, BF2 is my primary right now...

I have the following in mind...

ASUS A8N-SLI Premium Socket 939
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+

*Question is this....

I thought about getting a Nvidia 7800GT 256mb... EVGA...
but now second guessing....
thinking about either a 7800GTX 256mb or maybe even 512mb ....

Is there any worries of the X2 3800+ bottlenecking any gfx cards? I dont think so but not sure...


Any input is appreciated...( getting a better CPU or etc....)

Sorry to go off topic but I noticed that you have computer specs that are very similar to mine. I just installed an X850XT PE graphics card and expected more of of difference between it and my old 9800pro. Please tell me what settings you are able to play at without any choppyness. Do you have a 3DMark05 score?

I am able to play with Lighting, DLighting, DShadows on medium. 2x AA, Medium Filtering, the rest high, at 1280x1040.

Absolutely right, the only time CPU really plays a part these days is in RTS games, if you want an extra 1-2 fps playing Rome Total War buy something expensive.

X2's work fine with Nvidia drivers.

If you get an Opteron i'd go for a 144 if i were you, its socket 939,is virtually identical to a FX57 and costs 1/6th of the price and clocks just as fast to boot.

U mean the Opteron 154, anyways, ya, it's lke 300 bucks cheaper, and it overclocks better. Anyways, if ur buying single core AMD< there's really no point in not investing the extra 30 bucks to get an opteron, they are pre-tested in AMD labs, unlike reg A64s, plus, they have larger L2 caches sometimes.

No he shouldn't. The AM2 is not really going to offer anything special other than DDR2 support.

Microsoft even has a hotfix for it, but hey, I guess we should just take your word for it and ignore an official patch released specifically for the conflict introduced in the nVidia drivers.

Show me the Official patch that fixes conflicts between Nvidia drivers and AMD x2.

The truth is, a 3.2Ghz is a bottleneck for a card like a 7800GTX, a 3.4 Ghz is a bottleneck for a card like a 7800GTX , a 3.8Ghz is not a bottleneck for a 7800GTX AT THIS MOMENT !!

This doesnt make sense, well at least for AMD users anyway. Correct me if im wrong but i didnt know that there were any AMD CPU's that came stock at 3.8 Ghz.... ??? The new AMD FX-60 is only a 2.6, and the FX-57 runs at 2.8, these are no way near the 3.8 that you suggested CPU's needed to be, but they are the best and fastest gaming CPU's out there.

I would think the competition for the FX57 would be the Intel 3.73 XE 1066 FSB single core.

THat's not much of a match on intels side lol. Anyways, a FX-57 i would say is the equivelent of, say, a 4.4ghz P4 processor.
