new system, really laggy

i recently got a new system. BF2 looks amazing on it, but it is very very laggy. runs worse than my older system. so i lowered the gfx and still no change. my system is:

AMD 3500+
Radeon x700
2GB RAM
80GB HDD

what could be the problem? also what is the best drivers for my gfx card?

The newest ones, probably.

Are you running anything in the background? If so, disable it, ESPECIALLY Fire Walls and Virus Scanners.

Best stable drivers are the 5.11 Radeons. I have the GeCube Radeon x700. It's your background proccessors., you shouldn't be lagging with a proccessor and ram you've got.

Well maybe your using too high settings? The X700 isn't the best one you know. It is low-medium budget card...

Ok this is gonna sound really gay, but videocards are random in battlefield you know i know this guy who plays bf2 great with the x700 and another guy who's game runs SH!T on battlefield.....

Your GFX card, mate, get at least a 256 MB card, 6600GT or above, I prefer Nvidia cards. The x700 is known for its poor performance. Upgrade your card and your system will rock.

Exactly. I have a Gecube 256mb Radeon x700. I used to run the game on high with 1280 settings until 1.12. Now im running on medium with 100 % view distance scale with VERY minor lag. I also have 1 gig of ram too to keep in mind.

that is my new card, i upgraded from the old school geforce 5200! for some strange reason i cannot enter task manager. when i do hit ctrl+alt+del it says it has been disabled by system admin, but i am system admin and i havent disabled it!

Mate, sell the card and upgrade, seriously the x700 is a terrible card for gaming. Get a 6600GT 256MB or higher. Go Nvidia. If you want to stay with ATI the x800gto 256 mb is a good card, both in agp and pci-e. Same pricerange. I have tuned many BF2 machines.
