Elixir RAM Good or Bad???

alright guys,

if u wanna know why i am asking this then go to my previous thread here:

now basicly i have some Elixir RAM and i think that it is dragging my peformance down a bit... i recently bought it so i can still take it back but not for much longer...

so I wanna know if it's good or bad... i have 2 gb (4x512mb) of DDRII 533 Elixir RAM... and currently my 3dmark 05 score is 6200 (full spec in link above) and i think it's the ram thats holding me back a bit..

is it worth trying to take back then get same thing but corsair???

I haven't heard much about the ram. Just seems to be a generic "brick n mortar" store brand like Xtacy video cards. I wouldn't even know what IC's it uses. It's possible it's not stable so run memtest and see how it does. Do you know the timings?

I've had and have elixir in my secondary rig, and I've never had a problem w/ it. In fact it overclocks pretty friggen good for cheapo ram. You say that this is a new system? It will take you a good couple of weeks to get it dialed in. If you bought a build your own, I would recommend checking out the interior to make sure everything is cool and what you ordered.

Well I could tell you and I will, but if your getting lousy performance, you should fix whatever is causing issues. Make sure in the Bios it says 256 insted of 128 in your video slot. That probably isn't the whole problem. But seriously overclocking is no joke. If you do something wrong, your motherboard, ram, cpu, PSU and Vid card could fry. You need to spend time w/ your new computer to run through EVERY option everywhere and make sure everything is cool. Then you can go to your Bios to check everything over and maybe change some stuff here and there. Please do research on your Mobo forums to get hints and tweeks. You can learn alot about BAD defaults and things that will help performance. GL

Download CPU-z version 1.31. Nothing to install, just open the .exe. Click the memroy tab and list the numbers.

alright well i will get that thing to check the ram tonight and post it at bout 7pm

cause my pcs at a diff place to where i am now,

also to DV8 thanks for the advice, i will check to see if i can find info on the mobo. but know that i am not new to overclocking, but not the bst at it, i have had many good runs but i try to avoid really doing it because then stuff gets too hot then worse peformance then b4, i just need to find a fine line...

and one other thing, the leadtek website actually says overclockable to 450 1250 instead of 430 1200, and gives a bios download link.... from the maker of the card. should i go for it???

what it showed me for the RAM

was

freq 286.0
FSB : RAM 3:4
CAS# latency 4.0 clocks
ras to cas delay 4 clocks
RAS precharge 4 clocks
cycle time 12 clocks


for the CPU i was bit concerned as to the core clock speed...

CPU clocks
core clock speed 2.8135 Ghz while looking at cpu-z but bouced to 3.4 on the odd occasion (this is bad isn;t it...)
multiplyer x14-x17
FSB 201.2
bus speed 803.9

should i be talkign to intel about the standard 2.8???

was

freq 286.0

Those are standard DDR2 timings. It's running at DDR572mhz, but it's stock speed should is spec'd at 533mhz I'd assume. It's already slightly overclocked. I'd suspect they are these sticks:

Their site seems to suggest they have a 6 layer PCB so I think they are fine.

That looks like intel's version of cool 'n quiet. The 14-17x multi is used to idle down the processor when it's not being used alot.

Nothing bad. You can disable it in the bios I think. Anyone with a 775 intel feel free to chime in.
