Opinions on future build

Hi all, been meaning to get a new comp. for a while now and while browsing supplier sites i found the following setup which seems decent for my budget of around £700:

Athlon 64 PCI-Express Motherboard,
Athlon 64 3800+ Processor,
2GB DDR400 Crucial Memory,
160GB SATA 7200rpm Hard Drive,
DVD drive,
256MB GeForce 6600GT SLI,
Black/ Grey Standard Case ,
Uprated 500W PSU,
Windows XP Home - CD supplied sealed

I was wondering what other people think - will this run well etc? And if not, are there any specs/pc websites you'd recommend?

Good rig, but can i suggest getting the 6800GT or 6800GS, instead of the 6600. Thats about the only thing i would change there. It would just keep the freme rates higher and let you use all high with full AA i should think.

Yea, anything over the 6800GS/GT is good :p lol, but i would say that those cards are the minimus you want to buy now if you want your vid card to last in the gaming world. I mean a 7800GTX 512 MB would be nice

Not much information. Different companies make different quality products even though they may be the same kind of product (there are good and bad 2 GB modules).

But from the looks of it, its good. Go for a 6800GS if you can (don't get the GT).

Thats a pretty good deal for that price though. The processor is good, and 2GB will handle BF2 very nicely. I say go for it. The video card may not be the best, but you can always upgrade that down the line. And to be honest the 6600GT isn't a bad card at all. With 2GB of RAM it should handle BF2 nicely as well.

Thanks for the advice

I also have the choice of upgrading the graphics card to a 7800GT for an extra £90 roughly or swapping the 6600GT for a Radeon X800 GT...not sure what to pick :P.

if you want, buy a better graphic card like the 7800gt, you will get the money by saving buying the 3700+ san diego, its better money/quality than 3800 and even 4000

Get an Athlon 64 FX-60 and 2X GeForce 7900 GTX 512mb in SLi.

Seriously, get either a 7800GT or a 7800GTX, the 6600 won't last. If you have some money spare after that, go for a 4xxx+ series AMD Athlon (I'd Suggest Dual-Core) or even the X2 5000+ :p

But I doubt that it would fit into £700 though, so just try getting a 6800GT at the least.

yeah, wha they all said. Getting a card like a 6800gs now, even though it is a great card, might not be a good idea seeing as how the 7900 and all these things are coming out. I would go for a 7800gt.

if i were you i would get a Athlon 3200+ instead of the 3800+

And use that extra money to get a nvidia 6800gt 256mb or the 7800gt if you can! you will not regret this belive me!

Oh yea and dont get the 3200... its kinda outdated, get the opteron 144 or 146.. much better...
