Why get DDR500 if he's only going to run at stock speeds? That's pointless. That's like buying a Bugatti Veyron and not going over 55mph. What's the point?

I meant run the RAM at its stock speeds. As in 250HTT, for example.

If you aren't planning to overclock, there is no reason in the world to have overpriced fancy ram.

Even with the best, tightest timings in the world, you will gain only a few fps for significantly more money spent.

That money would be better applied to a bigger video card which will yeild several TIMES more fps than the fancy ram did.

I would recommend a better video card over fancy ram 1000 times over.

For every hobby, there is a market for absolutely useless/overpriced upgrades...fancy ram is the pinnacle of this when talking about computers.
I say this because it offers the least results for the most amount of money spent.

Never going to overclock? Buy value ram and a better video card.

@ gigs of quality DDR400...all you need. There is nothing out there, or coming soon, that you cant run well with this memory. Just get something "QUALITY" like....Corsair (the best) Even the good quality Patriot memory works just fine. Oh, and it isnt that ezpensive rite now.

Did you read that he's going to overclock? He wants a 250MHz HTT. What DDR400 ram will run at 250HTT with no divider and tight timings, plus 1T? Not only that, he has the option to go even higher than 260. He's not wanting a stock machine, he plans on overclocking.

rymaples is very right. A 3700+ runs standard at 200x11=2,2ghz. It's an overclock miracle and since I will have some descent cooling solutions (4 quiet casefans, 2x 120mm, 1x 92mm, 1x 80mm) and a Artic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro it should at least makes 2,8-3,0GHz.

I will probably OC to 250x11=2,75GHz. first, that should run 100% stable. Perhaps I will try 260 and 270 MHz as well, but that's optional.

Which is why he'll ignore the part he needs to, and take in the other...he still doesn't need the lowest CAS ram is what I am saying. 3 would be fine.

There are no 1GB DDR500 modules rated any lower than cas 3. So that is the lowest cas.
