    Re: Broke 8000 3dmark05!

I wish that 3DMARK05 was the tool that a lot of people think it really is. I wont lie and say that I don't care what my score is, or that I don't strive for a better, or even that I don't run it after every hardware upgrade and use it as a gauge. However, it's just not as powerful or accurate as it could/should be. Maybe the next one, or someone else will come out with a better one that people could say with confidence something along the lines like:

"Battlefield 3 requires a 3DMARK07 score of 10,000 to operate at full specs and any resolution"

See what I mean? Basically a full system diagnostic machine.

    3DMARK "The Dyno" '07 baby =P

And it'd test component, and tell you what's holding you back or should be upgraded. And then when you tweaked, or upgraded, your score actually went up, and your peformance actually increased. And anyone with a 10,000 score could play BF3 with full specs at any resolution and we could all forget about FRAPS running all the time in fear of an FPS drop.

*Sigh* after all this money, it just sucks that wonderful games (HL2, GTA SA, FEAR, COD2, BF2, etc) can be utterly ruined by even a momentary struggle to maintain a fluid fps.

    /rant

    ps: my score is 6776

Hey If I was playing on all high with my settings I would be more than happy. I am getting 20-40 FPS with the following:

        Lighting, DLighting, DShadows = Medium
        4xAA, Medium Filtering
        Rest = High
        1280x1024 @75Hz

If I crank it any higher than that it starts getting choppy when I look around too fast.

BTW - Wonder what your(my) scores will look like with the new 3DMark06 available tomorrow,1/18/06 at Gamespot?

My 3DMark05 score is based on no oc/no mods period, res at 1280x1024 and graphic card at default settings. BF2 played at 1280x1024 with all settings on "HIGH" and only get rare clipping when flying close to a mountain, otherwise no problamo.

hmm any chance of you people sending me an "ancient" 6600 GT agp or a new AMD 64 3000 processor and motherboard maybe?

seeing as you guys are going through for most people what is already state of the art hardware at a breakneck pace, id appreciate any table scraps (ie, the totally obsolete 6800 hehe) being thrown down to me.

frankly, i dont know what all the fuss is about. any games that take advantage of a 10 billion 3dmark score?

nah, over 4000 or whatever you can run bf2 on high everything, so no diff.

why not just play bf2 and have fun rather than spending gallons on a super computer for some filthy robot box to tell you what it thinks of your comp.

This forum has helped me work out some issues. I now play with full on high settings and it rocks. 3DMark05 helps tell you where your at and if something could be better. Does your rig play on High?

Most users don't have the Pro version of 3DMark05 and the scores you see posted here are @ the default settings (1024x768).

                    Re: Broke 8000 3dmark05!

Even "ancient" hardware still has value =P

I'll be selling my 3200+ in a couple of weeks. Might even call AMD and get a replacement so I can sell a new processor instead of my 4 month old one.

Anywhoo... despite my post, I still think 3DMark05 is pretty decent to get an idea of how a computer is doing, and doubt a computer scoring 4000 could play all high. I can barely play all high (only in Single Player).

New 3DMark coming out today? Kinda awesome. It'll be pretty much useless for a couple of weeks/months until everyones noticed it and used it, and then we'll know what the numbers mean. It's not quite the same as a driver or patch. Though, I'm sure you'll see peoples '06 scores pretty soon. Thanks for the info.

I finally broke 8000 in 3dmark05! From a stock 72xx to 8033 after a bios volt mod and some hefty overclocking I am pretty happy. I think its pretty good for stock cooling on my whole system. Finally happy to break that mark after several attempts at tweaking my system. before the volt mod I was only able to hit 7834.
How you do it with similar specs?

Bios volt mod, and vmem pencil volt mod. Lets me run stable at 500/1.2 and sometimes up to 505/1.24 depending on ambient temps. For long term gaming I usually just run at 476/1.18 since XFX's cards and most 7800GT's seem to crash games after a while with higher clocks without better cooling or pure luck.
