    Overcloacking my CPU need help...

    Hey, I wanna try to overclock my CPU its a Amd Athlon 64 processor 3200+ 2010.3mhz. I am hoping it will be able to hit 2.6 or 2.7 mhz!

    I started by restarting my computer t'ill the black screen came up and i pressed Delete. Then i went to my "Hardware monitor" and almost everything seems to be disable as if i nedeed to go somewere to say yes i want to enable because i wanna overcloack were is that enable ? Or is it that am doing something wrong here.

    And i am having a few concerns on what i should set the first test how much mhz should i set it on. Any suggestion any tips please post them because this is the first time i am gonna overclock ( exepte for my vdeo card )

    Thanks

    I'm not familiar with ASUS mainboards/BIOS but my overclock settings are below:

    An A64 3200+ E3 Venice at 2.4ghz/2GB DDR400 RAM with stock heatsink/fan. Idles at 35c. Max temp under load is approx 45c. I could go higher but my ram doesn't like it...

    BIOS Settings:

    MEMORY
    Frequency = 166
    Voltage = 2.80v
    Timings = 2.5-3-3-7 T1

    CPU
    HT Frequency = 1000 (800 is usually recommended, but 1000 works fine for me)
    HT voltage = 1.38v
    Multiplier = 10x
    FSB(HTT) = 240
    Vcore = 1.63v ie [+10%]

    CPU result

    Memory result

    CPU-Z is a handy utility for checking CPU and memory information.

      what kind of cooling do you have to keep it on 2400 mhz?
      Am at 2200.5mhz right now (3500+) and i have 43C already...but i still wanna reatch the 2.7 ,2.8 mhz Do I need like a Zalman CNPS9500 LED to not pass l'ets say a 45C.

        2.7 or 2.8 is unlikely, especially if you are still using stock cooling, and extra especially if you are idleing at 45C. Don't forget you need to watch your load temp too.

        Try reading these:
        http://forums.extremeoverclocking.co...d.php?t=151373

        And by all means don't just start changing stuff if you don't know what the hell you are doing, you'll be bound to break something.

          I'm only using the heatsink and fan which came with the cpu... Maybe you need to reseat the hsf, or lower your cpu voltage a little? Is the inside of your case already very warm due to poor cooling/ventilation?

              Yea, overclocking is for advanced users. Don't just start randomly doing it if you have no idea what the hell to do. Video card overclocking is very different form CPU overclocking since all you have to do in video card overclocking is move a couple of sliders up. I suggest you heavily read through that link jimmy gave you. Overclocking can easily damage your hardware if you mess something up. I suggest you also download Prime95 for when you want to test your CPU's stability after ocing.

              Oh, and you probably won't be seeing 2.6 or 2.7 unless you get some really good air cooling or standard water cooling.

                I got my 3200 up to 2.6 GHz with almost no previous knowledge other than a bunch of guides on the internet. It has stock cooling and idles at 31C. I will post my specifics when I find them

                  I didnt say i was expecthing 2.7 or 2.8mhz from only my heatsink and 2x120mm fans i said if i get the Zalman CNPS9500 LED will it be possible to bring it up to thos numbers...

                    Probably not. Most of the venices are topping out around 2.6 nowadays.

                      Yea, it's not going to go any higher than that.

                        Ok 2.6 am fine with its gonna be like a FX-55...i need information suggestion here not estimation on what it gonna land on...whatever it is gonna be am saving a bunch a money instead of buying a new processor.
                        I will make sure my cpu does not go over 45C...i need to know how i can get it up to 2.6 look at these default bios setthing 1 by 1 what would you put on eatch one to make it 2.6mhz ( i have a alarme if anything goes wrong my computer restarts and it goes back to default )

                          2.6 would not be the same as an FX-55, and you need to read the article I kinked to, you can't just go jacking the CPU up to settings, you need to gradualy work up to them.

                            Mine will run at 2.6 and the temp still idles in the mid 30s with the stock cooling and late 40s under load... unfortunately I think it's the Corsair value ram that brings in instability at 2.6mhz, but as the system is still at 20% overclock I've no complaints, its clocked faster than a 3700+ and I got an extra 400mhz for free .

                            Reduce ram frequency to 133 and increase HTT (CPU FSB) to 280. That should get you 2.6mhz and ram at 180.

                              yah, definately read the link lil_jimmy_norton gave you. DO NOT RUSH your OC'ing sessions! Just because you get to a certain OC, w/ temps below 50C, doesn't mean it is stable. As far as estimation on what #'s you'll hit, we can't tell you because every CPU OC's different. I personally will never OC on stock cooling. I would atleast invest on a HS first before OC'ing.
