New computer, any suggestions?

Its been over 3 years scince i built my last custom machine, and with all these new games coming out my old hardware needs upgrading, my game always crashes and ive tried every suggestion out there, nothing works so its time to build anew.

Here is what i have now:
AMD Athlon XP 2800 (Barton) OC'ed 2.2GHz
MSI K8T4AV Motherboard running at 333MHz FSB (VIA Chipset )
1 GB of PNY PC3200 DDR
Maxtor 7200RPM (4mb cache:cry: ) 40GB Hard drive
Soyo Raptor 550w Variable PSU
LITE-ON 52x32x52 CDRW
LITE-ON 16x DL DVDRW
Creative Sound Blaster Auduigy Gamer w/EAX

Im sticking with AMD cause they have never failed me, this is what i plan to build:

AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 1MB cache.
ABIT Fatal1ty AN8-SLI Nforce4 SLI Mobo
XFX 7800GTX 256MB PCI-E
Seagate 10,000RPM SATA Hard drive (140GB)
2GB PNY PC3200 (Recycled my old 1 GB)
Recycle LITE ON Drives
Use old PSU
Recycle Sound Blaster Card.

All that will cost me just under $1300 off of newegg.com

Would you guys think this makes a good setup? In about 1 month i will have the money to build this and I am trying to make certian on what i will get.

That's a good setup, but I'd ditch abit and go with a asus or dfi mobo, especially if you wanna oc.

I doubt you old PSU will work. Is it 24pin? Does it have a PCI-e connector? If you answered no to either of those questions, you sir, need a new PSU. Not to mention if it's 3 years old it probably doesn't have the needed amperage on the +12v rail.

I have a soyo Raptor 550w that i bought back in 2004, but i dont think it has a PCI-e Connector, what do those look like anyway?

is a DFI lanparty board any good?

Depends on which board, but in general the boards are good, excellent oc'ers. But they also have fairly high requirements for the other hardware (ram, psu, etc).

I'm w/ ^^^. Definately consider DFI or Asus for OC'ing your CPU. As far w/ the choice of RAM, go w/ these.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231021 Those 2GB PNY PC3200 will hold your OC's, plus they're cheap for performance RAM! For HDD's, go w/ a 16MB cache HDD.... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136003 For power supplies, you're going to need a new one. If you plan on SLI (later on in the future), consider the OCZ PowerStream or PC Power&Cooling.

I would definitely buy a new PSU and new RAM. DDR500 matching pair of 2X1GB. The rest you can get by with.
