Overclocking Ram?

Hey Guys,

I got a new motherboard and it seems to be impervious to overclocking. I have my AMD 3500+ Torture testing at 2.6ghz right now and everything seems to be passing. This is on a cheapo Venis 7 copper heatsink and its not going over 47*C according to Speedfan.

One thing my motherboard doesn't have at the moment is access to the CPU multiplier, so my RAM is running at DDR473 right now. Is this too much? I have it on 1.7v and my side case fan is blowing right over the dimms. Is this dangerous taking PQI Turbo DDR400 up to this speed? I guess if it passes Prime95 blend testing it is ok?

CPU multiplier has nothing to do with RAM speed. It's safe to run your RAM at just about any speed as long as it doesn't cause errors or crash. And as long as you keep it cool, you should be fine.

Did read that right? You have your Vcore at 1.7v???? Or did you mean your RAM is at 2.7?

Ram at 2.7, sorry, my eyes are dialated. can't really proofread right now.

WEll, my torture test has lasted for 5 hours now and its rock solid stable. I guess this BFG Tech mobo is a beast of an overclocker.

With the CPU multiplier I can turn down the ram to 166mhz and up the FSB so I am only overclocking the ram a little bit at 2.6ghz cpu speed. It would allow me to change the ram divider.

Oh yeah, here's another question: Should I push it a little farther and see what it'll do? Is 47*C about as high as I should take it? On the stick heatsink it would be at 49*C at 2.5ghz

Once again, the CPU multiplier has nothing to do with RAM frequency. The only 2 ways to lower RAM frequency is to lower the HTT or with a divider. Hopefully you're doing it right, but just have the names mixed up.

47C is fine. You want to stay below 60C. So you have plenty of room to up the vcore if need be.

Every motherboard on this planet has a memory divider, you just need to find it.

237-ish MHz for PQI Turbo RAM is perfectly fine. They're excellent overclockers. Check the stability with Memtest86+ and SuperPi (32m).

5 hours is nothing. You need atleast 16 hours of Torture Test stability for it to be considered really stable. Go to sleep.
