    should I be overclocking?

I built my first pc on christmas and I saw an option in my systems bios that automtically overclocks for me should I turn this on? I have an MSI nforce4 motherbaord.

I reccomend manually overclocking, you can reach higher speeds and it will give you more room to change the options. check out www.ocforums.com and take a look at the CPU section. Check out the stickies.

Oh, i had the exact same mobo, lemme guess the Neo4 version. Anyways, there's that little thing that says dynamic overclock or something like that. And then it has the ranks of private, sergeant, captain, colonel, general, and commander or something like that. Anyways, that is by percentage, private: 1% OC, sergeant: 3% OC and so on. I guess u could do it, i got mine to the 'colonel' level before the CPU started having probs, it should do, 'colenel' level got my 2 ghz CPU to 2.2 ghz. Right now, i just overclock the ol fashion way, increase the FSB. Anyways, ya, i guess if u wanna risk it u could overclock ur CPU. Just be warned, if u overclock and ur CPU dies on u, ur warranty is voided cause u overclocked.

wat about the "Detect Optimal frequencies" button in the forceware contorl panel, wat exaclty does that do. I feel like its overclocking my fx5200 to a point where it can get burned if i were playing in the dead heat of summer

I wouldn't reccomend the automatic function, and I wouldn't reccomend doing it manualy until you know what you are doing.
